How long are O.R. shifts?!

Do OR nurses work 12hr or 8hr shifts? Or can they work both?

I work 4 10's, 11a-9p, M-Th. Off F, Sa & Su. I love my shift! No early mornings and things are already happening when I get there. I do lunch reliefs then circulate afternoon cases then cases that are scheduled for after office hours. And we are a trauma hospital so I can't think of many evenings that we have not had a case come through the ED.

Do you guys work weekends OR are you on call during the weekend?

Level 2 trauma center- we work every third weekend; although we have 4 dedicated weekend only staff, the rest of the shifts are filled by everyone else. Typically work one shift and have one 8-hour shift of call.

Where do you work? I would love to apply there when I graduate (May 2011). I worked a similar shift when I was a cop and LOVED it.

You are so very lucky.

Cheers!
