  1. Its all about managing your money. As someone mentioned you don't have to marry or be an MD to make money. I have people in my family who make more money than MD and they don't even have a college diploma; they were just wise with their money and invested it effectively. Also its about being 'smart' with your money. For example the OP mentions about owning luxury vehicles. Yes you could by those vehicles you just have to be smart about it. For example instead of buying the $80,000 brand new BMW get a used BMW for half that price. You just have to shop around. Same goes with that house and the vacation; check last minute deals for different destinations such as the carribean they are always cheap.
  2. YES. I mean if they let the docs and advance practioners go then why are they picking on the male nurses. If I were you I would sign a petition and do something quick. Cause think about it, you would have to drag other female nurses away from their pts just so they could assist a male nurse. Seems ridiculous to me and think about the time you are going to be wasting running around the floor looking for a female nurse that could observe you.
  3. I think it would be better if you ask this question in the Canadian Section. :)
  4. I beleive the hospital will pay your for the training part. But you may have to make a commitment to the hospital for X number of years. For example some hospitals will train you in certain speacialty areas such as critical care and in return they expect you to stay there for a minimum of 2 years.
  5. That sucks, I don't know about you guys, but up here physicians get their own private room...if there on call.
  6. Here in Canada (Ontario) it is between $29 to $30 start not including shift differential. I think it also depends on what department you work (i.e ER, OR, Med/surg etc).
  7. Up here new grads start at around $28/hr to $29/hr. Too bad we don't have CRNA's in Canada. You nurses are lucky in the U.S. The pay of nurses here in Canad from one unit to the next is the same (i.e med/surg, ER, OR etc). I think that is ridiculous because you have no motivation to expand your nursing skills.
  8. I am amazed to here what they are paying you. You have every right to ask for a raise. What surprises me is why are nurses paid so little in the united states? I was thinking in the U.S you guys would be paid way more than what we are paid up here in Canada.....But I guess that is not the case.
  9. Do you guys work weekends OR are you on call during the weekend?
  10. I've used SBAR and its proabably one of the best tools I have used thus far. I use it for everything, giving report, communicating with the doc etc.
  11. What are the hours like in OR? Anyone know.
  12. Well I am working at a local hospital as a CSW (clinical support worker). Its for nursing student who are entering there final year of their BScN degree. I am working on the oncology unit. The pay is good and you definately learn alot. I'm not sure if all hospitals offer it, but if they do it would be a good job and it correlates vey well with what you learn in school and plus its a summer job :nuke:.
  13. What about Ontario?
  14. hey, this the website for the np in ontario. it list's the schools that offer the np program. i am going to guess that each province has their own website on this. http://np-education.ca
  15. That superman idea is pretty neat
