How long should I study?

Published

I will graduate August 21st (I am incredibly excited about this!!), but would like some input as to how long I should study for the NCLEX.

I was thinking of taking the exam late September and study 5 days a week (8 hour days) for that month break. I am terrified of not passing (even though I have done quite well in nursing school thus far and feel like I know a lot), so I have purchased all of the major publisher review books -- Kaplan, Saunders, Lippincott, & Mosby.

A few new grads told me they spent THREE months studying -- that seems a bit much. Any advice??

Thanks! :)

Thanks! I also worked as a student worker while studying for NCLEX. I hope it all turns well. Yeah the little one doesn't let me study either. :) Thanks for the words of encouragement and hope to post my passing results soon!!

I graduated on May 19th and took the test on June 27th. Just found out today that I passed.

I used the Kaplan book with CD and the Saunders book/CD. I had a couple other books like Lippencott and Mosby, but I only put those discs in a couple of times. Just went over some lab values and some s/s of toxicity and disease processes so they were fresh in my mind and did about 100-200 questions per day, about 5 days a week. I did study a bit the day before my test, but I tested at 2pm. Good luck to you.

I graduated May 2nd and started studying the week of May 12th. I'm scheduled to take my exam on Tuesday. I would say if you're not working and dont have any kids I would try to take the nclex a month after you start studying. However I do feel it's important to give yourself some time off after graduation, you deserve the break!

I plan on retaking qt7 tomorrow and going over the meds briefly. I'm going to get up at my usual time (6:30am) and plan on studying until 3pm at the latest. Although it is going to be hard to put everything away and not think about it until Tuesday! I'm also going to go for a run and just try to make myself exhausted so I can go to bed early tomorrow night. Good luck!!
