How long until I can get my GPA up?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I've completed 4 semesters at a community college, and am going back to school after a year of being out. I'm taking courses at a community college to get my GPA up just until I can transfer to a 4 year and then to a BSN program. I currently have a 2.157 cumulative GPA and I'd like to get it up as high as possible.

Specializes in CNA/LPN.

In order to get your GPA up to a 3.0 or higher, it'll take a little time. I'm currently at a 2.9 and in order to finally reach a 3.0, I have to make an A in my math class. It depends on how much you devote time into your studies and how determined you are. If you can maintain all A's, it'll be up before you know it, but the lower your grades are, it'll just take more and more time. Go in there focused and confident, you'll be just fine! I wish you the best of luck! :)

My GPA was low before I started doing nursing pre-reqs. I started around a 2.8. With hard work and three semesters (plus one summer session), I've raised my GPA to a 3.62. This is with making a 4.0 on everything. I'm proof that it's possible, and it is very worth it.

Best of luck!

I raised my gpa from 2.0 to a 3.4 over a few semesters with a lot of hard work. It can be done. It all depends on how many units you have already completed (the more units you have, the harder it is to change) and how determined you are to raise it. One semester I took 22 units then followed it with 13 units of summer school, and each semester after that I made a goal to get all A's (in a few classes I slipped to an A- or B). What helped me was planning my grades ahead of time with online gpa calculators so I can go into the semester with a clear picture of what grades I expected from myself. Keep in touch with your professors, be sure to multitask, and stay on top of your assignments.

Here are a few gpa calculators so you can visualize what is exactly needed to raise your gpa & by how much:

Also keep in mind if you want above a 3.0 cumulative gpa, every grade lower than a B will bring your gpa down. For example, you a got a B- (2.7 pts) or a C (2.0 pts) it would decrease your gpa because it's lower than 3.0.

Good luck! Keep a positive attitude because you can turn things around.

I'm in the same boat as you. I have a 2.1 :( I'm hoping after some hard work this summer and this fall I can bring it up somewhat.

I am assuming all these classes are just to get into nursing school? My community college has about 12 prereqs specifically to enter their nursing program, and they *only* count those classes in your GPA when applying, no matter what other classes you've taken in the past. From the looks of your post you still have 16 classes to take, am I reading that right? My school encourages students to retake classes with a C or lower to raise their GPA (but they accept students into their program solely based on the GPA of prereqs).

I been there too....I started off with a 2.75( cause of my freshman yr in college...not knowing anything about which classes to take...i didnt even know things like withdrawal from class....sad very sad) but I have pulled it up to 3.22 FINALLY they are all right it takes hard work and patience lots of it.

I could continue to raise it up by taking physical education class or others as such but i thought wait althought they look at the overall, it wouldn't help the CERTAIN classes they mainly look at like micro or chem...

good luck!!
