How long to give notice of resignation

Hi All,

I need some advice, I'm currently a Unit Manager at a nursing home and have worked here for the past 9 years. Started from an LPN and just got my BSN. I've been asking for an assistance for the past 6 months and the director keeps saying she knows I need the help and she's working on finding someone to help.

I have found a great job with great benefits. What is an appropriate amount of time to give my current employer when I give my resignation letter?

Depends on your employer. For management level I've had some employers want 30 days.

I concur with the previous poster...

Last year I was a house supervisor at a specialty hospital when I received a more alluring job offer for an insurance company. The HR manager at the hospital required a 30 day notice of resignation in order for me to be eligible for rehire.

I would check with HR. In my role, Big Fancy Teaching Hospital requires me to give 4 weeks of notice. If I do not give that notice, Big Fancy Teaching Hospital will not rehire me in the future.

Definitely check the requirements of your facility- in mine, a licensed position must give 4 weeks notice. Anyone in a management position must give 3 months.

My facility requires 4 weeks

Thank you everyone for all your input, I went to HR and its 4-6 weeks
