...As of 2007, Illinois does not permit Graduate Nurses to practice as nurses. You have to have your Pass Letter in order to begin practicing, and can only practice on that for 3 months before you need your actual license to continue practicing.
As for the ATT itself - I had everything submitted (money to both PearsonVue and Continental Testing, my fingerprints, and my background check) before I graduated, and received my ATT about a business week after I graduated. (There was a long holiday weekend between graduation and when I got it.) That said, I am an IL resident, so I'm not sure how long it'll take them to OK you since you're from an out-of-state school. I would double-check with the IL BON to make sure your program satisfies the requirements for IL so that you don't get any nasty surprises come Spring.
Doodledee, I received mine via email which is what my nursing school told us to expect. I applied for the exam online in April but my school didn't send in all of the information until the week after graduation. I received my ATT email approximately 8 days after my school sent in their paperwork. Keep in mind though that we graduated earlier than a lot of other programs in the state.
I would like to recommend that you check your spam folder as some people in the past have had their ATT email end up in that folder. Good luck!

I found a couple of older threads (2002ish) asking this, but they didn't really have an actual answer.
I'll be applying from out of state (school in NY), and one of the hospitals that I'm applying to wants their new grads to have their ATT in hand before they start working. Our program doesn't finish until May 20 and they plan to start their new grads on June 20. If I submit my application ASAP after finishing the program, about how long should I expect to wait to receive my ATT?
