  1. I'm naturally quiet and many people comment on it. I hear "you're so quiet!" way too often. Like a couple other posters, I had a clinical instructor tell me I need to be more talkative if I want to make it as a nurse after graduating. I have many louder, outgoing colleagues that I think are really great at their jobs and I have a lot of respect for them. I don't think that one way is better than the other. I am constantly being asked why I am so quiet as if it is a negative thing. I know another quieter nurse who goes through the same thing. Its just a difference in personality but it does get treated like a flaw.
  2. coolnurse42- I'm sorry you have to go through this frustration - I am a new grad too and in a fairly similar situation (almost done with a 12 week orientation unless it gets extended, and have a preceptor that doesn't want to let me do much). It sounds like you are far ahead of where a lot of new grads (including myself) are, and I think you were right to tell her you want to take charge more often. Good luck with the rest of your orientation.
  3. Hello! If you are still looking, have you tried Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital? Its a pretty big psych facility with both in and outpatient, all ages, chemical detox, etc,. Its not in the city (Hoffman Estates) but they have a few openings (http://www.alexianbrothershealth.org/services/abbhh/index.aspx). Best of luck!
  4. Icechick - Thank you for the info! I wonder if they are still hiring it sounds like they already offered a lot of positions. I just applied to the program less than 2 weeks ago.
  5. How long did most people wait from when you applied to when you got a call for the phone interview? If you don't even get the phone interview will you get an e-mail rejection?
  6. Thank you for this information. I am a recent grad and applied there about a month ago and haven't heard back, I am assuming they are not interested but may keep trying. You mentioned excellent grades, do they ask for your transcripts? Did the other new RNs you knew also know people at the hospital? I don't and I'm wondering if that will make it nearly impossible for me.
  7. dudette10 - Thank you for the information about your job application experience. I just started submitting applications in the Chicago area a couple weeks ago and haven't gotten any interviews which is pretty discouraging. It seems like in general new grad jobs are very very sporifice in the Chicago area. I am considering moving back to where I went to nursing school.
  8. Hello, I also got the official letter in the mail one week later- tested on a Monday, got the letter the next Monday. If you have been waiting more than a couple weeks you should defiantly call Pearson Vue. I am also still waiting for my license number, as the previous poster mentioned it says it may take up to 4 weeks.
  9. Hi, since this post is from a couple of years ago, I was wondering if anyone who tested more recently can post when they got their official results? By official I mean from the BoN (I'm not sure if they e-mail or mail results) without use of the quick results thing offered by Pearson Vue. Do they take 2-4 weeks (which is what NCSBN says is the average time)? Thanks
  10. I hear a lot of radio commercials advertising jobs at VA hospitals; they say you can work in one with a license from a different state (so you could work in an IL veterans hospital with a current license from a different state). So you don't have to go through the endorsement process.
  11. Pixiesmom- Thank you for your response. Haunani - I also went to an out of state school so if I get my ATT anytime soon I will update.
  12. Thank you for those who already responded to this question. I am currently waiting for an ATT, did you all receive yours by e-mail or regular mail? And is the average wait time to get it just a couple of weeks? Thanks!
