I am just starting today. Today was my last day of LVN school so I'm almost to the end of that road. I already have the outlines for the Health and Safety so I can start looking at that, and I still have to study for my NCLEX of course.
I am just wondering how long it's taking people to complete their program. I live in Austin and there are a few jobs here for LVN but, of course none of them are what I want to do. So the quicker I can knock this out the better. I am a pretty motivated person.
Thank you!
started october 2009, finished october 2010. i took the month of december off and a couple of months in the summer due to a car accident. the wait for my cpne date seemed to take the longest.
just a few questions if you don't mind.
do you have a busy home life? (not being personal of course)
how much time did you dedicate to study?
what kind of experience did you have previously?
are you the kind of person that slept through high school but still passed with "a"s?
how many tests did you have to take?
how often did you test?
i know this asking a lot of questions but taking a few months off all together and the cpne wait it seems like you did all the test in less than seven months! i am impressed, would like to know your secrets.

I know you're not asking me, but my timeframe was similar -- I took my first exam in mid-May 2007 (A&P) and was done with the nursing exams and CPNE-ready by the end of October 2007. I couldn't submit my CPNE app until the first week of November 2007, and then I had a looooong wait for my CPNE -- didn't go until June 2008. But part of that was taking Micro in at the end of November and two general ed CLEPs in January 2008. After that, I seriously studied for the CPNE and passed on my first attempt.
As a paramedic, I had to take all the exams -- I couldn't skip the exam that LPNs currently can (I think they can still skip one, that might be changing).
Here are my exam dates:
A&P - 05/14/2007
Nursing Concepts 1 - 06/04/2007
Nursing Concepts 2 - 07/03/2007
Nursing Concepts 3 - 07/31/2007
Nursing Concepts 4 - 09/04/2007
Nursing Concepts 7 - 09/17/2007
Nursing Concepts 5 - 09/26/2007
Nursing Concepts 6 - 10/17/2007
Microbiology - 11/28/2007
As you can see, I was under the old curriculum -- they're not called "nursing concepts" anymore. Anyway, after NC6, I was CPNE-eligible. It really didn't take long to study for the exams -- I worked (and still do) in an ER, three 12's a week. But I also had a part-time job doing desktop publishing (my old career, and I still have the same client), plus I volunteered one day a week as a medic (which I still do). I had been a paramedic for about 4 years when I started EC. Married, no kids, supportive husband. :)
Thank you Lunah, I appreciate your response. I am a logical thinker and I am trying to set goals but it can be difficult when there are so many unknowns and variables. I haven't had review of my college transcripts but most of the classes I have taken should be good for my gen. ed. requirements so I should only have the nursing 1-8, the FCCA and the CPNE and micro. I originally had hoped to take my first test by the end of March and finish the program by December but I wasn't sure if this was a reasonable goal. I too work three 12s but in a max security prison. I don't have a second job but I do have a houseful but my wife lets me study when I am home.
it,s going....thats all i can say. the material is so dry i get distracted easily. but i will be taking form A of the practice test tomorrow. i wish i hadnt waited so late to do it. but i honestly didnt think it would help. and i didnt want to feel as though i was wasteing moneyy....but i saw many reviews that they did help so im going to try it out.
