I have been working in a CICU for five years now, and I am wondering if the stress is getting to me.... Things are not the same on the unit, and a lot of people are leaving...... How do you know when it is time to quit your job..... I guess I dont want to leave if things will get better. How do you guys deal with this issue..... When do you know if it is time to leave?????
Each and every one of us has different boiling points. Here are a few indicators that should tell me when it is time to quit my job:When do you know if it is time to leave?????
1. If I dread coming to work every shift...
2. If I feel burned out...
3. If I start crying over something that usually does not evoke tears...
4. If the workplace stress manifests itself in life-threatening physical symptoms such as chest pains, etc.
I think you already know. I know I did in each of the jobs I finally quit, but - like many people - I made excuses for the things that I didn't like and/or were bad. Humans, and especially women, just don't like change and often put up with horrible/toxic conditions far longer than they should.
Five years is a long time and will impress any interviewer; don't be afraid to look around, I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
Good luck!

P.S. Five years in a more or less toxic environment have led me to the job that I think I'm meant to have. Without this experience, I probably wouldn't have gotten it. And yes, I stayed too long, but I had my reasons and wouldn't stay this long in such an environment again. You learn, sometimes the hard way.

When you have to take a sleeping pill only on nights before you have to work. When you try to come up w/ some crazy reason to call in the night before. When you realize how great it will feel to actually give your 2 weeks notice.
