How the job market for new grads BSN in PA?

Published

Hi

I am a new grad from CA thinking of moving to other state to get acute hospital experience. How is the job market for new grad in PA? Thanks

Specializes in PACU.

I think it depends on where in PA you are looking.

Philadelphia and its surroundings are completely saturated with new grads and experienced nurses alike that are unemployed, but more rural areas of the state may be willing to take on new graduates.

There are jobs in Central PA, but you can't be too choosy.

Specializes in Vents, Telemetry, Home Care, Home infusion.

Pittsburgh area, Central/NE PA's Geisinger Health System, South Central Lancaster General, South East Reading Hospital and Lehigh Valley all seem to have positions available.

At Penn State Hershey Medical, they seem to be hiring lots of qualified nurses. And they have a graduate nurse residency program

hello, I will be graduate from my BSN in CA next May and move to PA by then.If you have done so, can I ask your job hunting experience? such as how did you get your PA RN license, when did you apply for job, how is the job market, and so on. I am very nervous to move to PA. Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thank you ahead!

You are not moving to PA. PA is not one, big, homogenous entity. It is Philly and Pittsburgh, and Harrisburg and Scranton, and Johnstown, and Enola, and Meadeville and a host of other locations, all very different from one another. I can tell you nothing about the job outlook in most of those places. I know that the hospitals in the less urban areas DO hire new grads. Hershey Medical has a very reputable new grad residency. Local hospitals in the mid-state area DO hire new grads. I think you would endure traumatizing culture shock moving here from California, however. It's odd here.

Where do you want to live? What kind of lifestyle do you want? What areas of PA are you considering? There is no simple answer to your question.
