If a patient is non-verbal and home schooled, how much participation in the patients school work is expected by the PDN? I am new to PD and looking for input. Thank you in advance! :-)

If a parent decides to homeschool their child without medical necessity for homeschooling. Either the parent must be qualified to educate the child or the parents use one of the many online home school companies. If not medically necessary (such as my client that was hospitalized for an extended time or my client who was home/bed bound due to a major fracture) the family is responsible. If medically necessary then the district provides the teacher and related services normally received in school ( PT OT ST) as appropriate.

My client goes home bound during RSV season. Everything is spelled out in the IEP his parents agree on with the school district at the beginning of the school year. His regular school teacher comes every day for 1-2 hours & his sign language interpreter (from the classroom) comes once a day but at a different time. She mainly helps him with homework. When he's home bound, OT also comes to the house twice a week.

In my patients case he (and his brother) are in an online home school and grandma is the learning coach. Sometimes she is unable to be in the room.
