My choice or required
I can see parents wanting us to do SOME activities. As far as being required to provide constant 12 hr entertainment, hire a clown! We are healthcare providers. Entertainment falls under "parenting". While requesting some age/mental status appropriate activities is reasonable, 12 hrs of forced play is not appropriate. It would be exhausting for the nurse and the patient. I wonder if the parents provide non stop entertainment when they are caring for their child.

Winter Weather!
Its icing/snow in Nashville. It started about 3am and is to continue throughout the day. I most likely could get to work safely. Getting home would be a different story. There are already wrecks everywhere. My patients mom does not work and she is ok with us using our best judgment. The problem is, I feel guilty for staying home. I was in the military and that instilled a strong work ethic. I NEVER miss work. What do you guys do in this type of situation? Thanks for any input and stay safe everyone!

Primary billiary cirrhosis
Hi GI Nurses! My husband was diagnosed with PBC yesterday. He is seeing a specialist Monday. He is a 54 yo healthy firefighter. Yearly FD physical had elevated Liver Enzymes. ..leading to the diagnosis. From what I have found so far, this is pretty scary. Anyone know about progression or prognosis in general? Thanks so much for any info!

Question Re Medicaid Pediatric Private Duty
He doesn't have a vent. Mom and grandma are there the most. They have an in home day care that grandma mostly does. They don't micro manage as much now that they are comfortable with me. Meds and suctioning are pretty frequent. CPS is not involved. Maybe I used "competent" a little loosely. :-)

Question Re Medicaid Pediatric Private Duty
That is a concern. He does need SOMEONE with him at all times. With all of the cut backs in healthcare in general, I worry that nursing hours could be decreased. This has not been implied in any way.

Question Re Medicaid Pediatric Private Duty
The home where I currently work has 5 adults living there. There are always at lease 2 adults in the home and 2 work outside the home. I care for a 10 year old. I am wondering if it is common for there to be capable caregivers in the home? My patient has 24/7 nursing care. I am wondering if any of you work in similar circumstances and if it frustrates you at times? Thanks for any input.

How involved a patients school work should be expected?
In my patients case he (and his brother) are in an online home school and grandma is the learning coach. Sometimes she is unable to be in the room.

How involved a patients school work should be expected?
He is working with ST on a DynaVox that picks up his eyes. His responses are very intermittent. ST is trying to get CG to use a head or foot switch as needed. His responses OVERALL are pretty random, so pretty much it would be a guess at answer to a question at this point. Thank you!

How involved a patients school work should be expected?
So far, sit with him during on-line classes and ? guess how he is responding to the teachers questions. He is non-verbal but does answer questions SOMETIMES by moving his tongue or feet.

How involved a patients school work should be expected?
If a patient is non-verbal and home schooled, how much participation in the patients school work is expected by the PDN? I am new to PD and looking for input. Thank you in advance! :-)
