How intense is the CNA course?

Published

I'm planning on taking a CNA course this summer while also an online Psy and computer class so that I can still be considered a part time student so that I can still get some financial aid money.

Do you think that I would be over doing it?

I have most of my nursing pre reqs done so I have a decent science background and I have also done online classes successfully before so I'm good with my time management but I'm still a bit worried.

I have a friend who is a CNA and she said the classroom was almost a joke, with no brainer quizes/homework and tests....the clinicals were more fun and educational.

Thoughts? Tips? Advice?

Thanks!

Ginny

That doesn't sound like too much of a course load to me. I did my CNA class with a similar schedule a few years back and handled it just fine. If you've already done some nursing pre-reqs, you'll be a little ahead even. My CNA class met 5 days a week for 8 weeks (if I remember right) and clinicals were the last 3 or 4. I got some basic basics from clinicals but really was starting from absolute zero on my first CNA job. The amount of homework for that class wasn't huge either. I think you should be fine doing classes and CNA class together.

Great thank you!!!

When I took a CNA course, we did all of the reading and assignments in class. There was little-to-no outside work involved (except for clinical hours, which were scheduled at the student's discretion). We met for four hours on four days of the week for five weeks.

Not too hard.

Most of it is common sense stuff you should know.

Easy peasy. I passed the class with 98%

Yep, that's not a heavy load. You could probably go to school full time and handle a CNA course without too much of a hassle, though things could get a little hectic at times. But with your schedule, you will do fine. No worries. :)

It wasn't bad at all. I was also taking 12 credit hours of university courses. The class was offered through my employer and was 10 days 8-3pm and I tested, passed, and was hired two days later.
