I got all A's in my pre-reqs with the exception of a 'C' in Statistics (Grrrr). But I only made a 115 on the NLN. I know a 100 is passing but I just barely made it. Do I still have a chance? How important is the entrance essay too?

You should be fine. I believe the nln is 10%. Good Luck!
Thanks, I appreciate the input. I see others that score 130's and 150's and I was a little intimidated! Im keeping my fingers crossed. :)

I made only a 115 and had about the same grades as you if not a little lower and will start on Monday! You should be good to go!! Don't let it totally overwhelm you. Save that for when you get in!! It all really depends on who applies with you. If you apply with people who have really high grades, then it might be harder, and vice versa. When I was applying I called the nursing department and they helped me figure out my "index" score and let me know what the cut off index score was for the previous class accepted. That can give you a good idea on how competitive you are as an applicant.
Thanks TNNursestudent21, that is a huge help, I am trying to save my worrying for later, I just cant help myself! Do you know how improtant the essay is? Mine was only one page. And I did receive my CNA certificate just to help grease the wheels a bit. I was hoping that would help as well

i am new on here i am at s.w. right now taking micro and anp2 have an A in anp 1 and it looks like i will have a B in micro and an A in anp 2. have not takin the nln yet i do that on dec 17...any idea s on what the low index was for spring admission??????? i figure i will have about a 57 if i make a bout a 110...any input from anyone at southwest tennessee woud be greatly appreciated!!!!!
Since I posted those first questions about the NLN and essay, I have been accepted to Southwest for the Spring. The NLN only accounts for 10%. The essay is not so much HOW much but WHAT you put in it. I had a high GPA and got my assitant nursing certificate which I think helped me out a bit as well. NO matter what anyone says the true key is it does appear that they look at each applicant individually. I only scored 110 on the NLN. I know many who scored 150's and higher. I can tell you one reason I scored so low. The test was about 70% Physics. I have never even taken Physics before. I was lost and sure that I had not gotten the 100 I needed. Not sure why it is so important on that exam but it was. I guess My English and Math made up for what I lacked in the Physics dept. Good Luck to you, Jenn:loveya:

jenn,
i am currently a student at southwest, i am taking my a&p 1 this semester and hopefully a&p 2 and micro over the summer. i saw that you and several others got their cna certificates to help with getting accepted. i have not taken the nln. but i have an a's in the 2 psych classes and an a in english and a b stats (math being my weak area.) how could a go about getting my cna certificate? any info would be greatly appreciated! i am terrified about not getting accepted!
I took my CNA classes thru Mid South Community College in West Mphs Ark. I love the small classes and the pace we went along at. My schedule was every Saturday for one semester. 8-3pm. Some of those days were long but it was worth it. I passed my state exam with flying colors! The instructors are great. The classes are less expensive there than most places I looked. Hope this helps.

To throw in my 2 cents, I am in my 2nd year at SWCC. You are ranked solely by your admission index score. If there is a tie for the last few spaces, they then base it on your essay to decide who gets selected. Although I guess having a CNA is always a good thing, very few of us in the program have anything like that. In fact, I'd say at least 50% don't have any medical experience!! I personally would focus my time and energy on A&P and Micro. The grades you receive in those classes will carry far more weight than a CNA. FYI - my index score was 65.1.
Thanks everyone!
