I am very upset with myself for signing a write up that I did not fully understand the reason for. To avoid drama and conflict I signed the write up and moved on. Well, then I started to really think about the write-up and both reasons for the write up are unfounded. I talked with my DON about this and she agree that the write ups are unfounded and will talk to the ADON who gave me the write ups. I must add that the ADON was very unprofessional in handling this. The ADON gave 3 nurses write ups while in a nursing meeting and had the nerve to put the write-up in an envelope with hershey kisses... like that would make us feel better. I have no problem being reprimanded about something I did wrong or need to improve on. Instead of just handing the write up to me I rather for the ADON to sit me down with the patients chart and review the errors I made. So my DON told me to write a follow -up letter to her and the ADON. My question is: How do I get an unfounded write up removed from my record even though I already signed. I already have one previous write up in my record and afraid that if I have one more that makes three I'll be fired.
I learned my lesson to never sign a write up ever unless I completly understand the reasons for it.

There should be an appeal process that is outlined in the facility's policies and procedures.
Good luck!
Thanks. I'm sure there is an appeal process but I did sign so I'm not sure if I can still appeal.
I should have included that at the facility that I work for, signing a write-up does not mean that you agree with the write-up, but that you acknowledge it.
Oh ok thanks ! that helps alot.

Whenever I sign a write up, I write my own account or explanation on the write up itself before I sign and I make a copy, whether you sign or not, the document will still be entered in your file. It is such a shame that nurses are treated this way, as hard as we work, its unbelievable how DONs and ADONs can sometimes make us feel that we are not valued or appreciated for the hard work we do; sometimes thre is no communication or verbal warning, i believe that some supervisors enjoy giving write ups, they feel more powerful i guess.

Do what the DON told you to do..write the letter to ADON...once you get response follow-up with DON about getting write-up removed from your file. I agree with every place I have ever been ,, signing does not mean you agree. I also would write my side on the form. Everyone has a Boss. keep working on it.
