How do I find out which union may be working in the background at my facility. I heard today that there is "talk". I'm interested in helping out but don't know how to find out who's starting things up. How do I find these things out without walking around the hospital asking people I don't know if they know who is involved? I've only been here a couple years. Does that make sense?
They had a vote about 4-5 years ago, but they had brought in some teamsters union, well that just didn't fly in Texas.
I don't know if any of you are high enough up in your unions to help me, but you can PM me for more info on which facility and where. Or are there websites that list where the different unions are active?
Thanks

CNA is quite active here....
SEIU is also represented on these boards
I don't have a dog in this fight so I will not endorse one over the other...
I will not let the perfect be the enemy of the good....

I'm not asking for an endorsement, just trying to figure out a way to find out who to talk with at my facility. Like I tried to say. I would like to be involved but don't want to walk around with a sign saying Who do I talk to about the Union? LOL
I guess the main Nursing Unions would be the CNA, UAN, and SEIU.....

The BEST union is CNA/NNOC. Always a Patient advocate and therefore a Nurse advocate as well.

I think SEIU's website is http://www.seiu.org/health/nurses/. I've contacted them about organizing before and its pretty easy if you follow the links. I think that I sent an email.

I see you are in Texas. NNOC is very active there with literally thousands of nurse activists. Last march NNOC Texas RN's introduced ratio legislation and held a large rally in Austin (I was there!). Also, NNOC Texas RN's have just won the very first NLRB election- this is the first unionized hosptial in Texas! If you visit the Texas page on NNOC site you can read about it!
