How does your hospital recognize, reward, and motivate staff (RN, CNA, etc.)?

I am a nursing student and am interested in how other hospitals recognize, reward, and motivate staff when it comes to change, or performing tasks consistently and going above and beyond. Is there a program your hospital or unit has in place to recognize certain staff members or motivate others to go above and beyond?

where I work, at the end of the fiscal year, we receive a bonus based on our quarterly review. It also depends on how well the hospital did that year. Last year mine was equal to a regular paycheck...kinda nice right before Christmas.

We get recognized by the mistakes/errors we make... and then use those as examples by sending them via email to all staff stating what not to do, and if you do so, here are the consequences. LOL. wonderful isnt it?

As much as i love being an ESN... nursing is far from what i thought it was. It seems like it is the managers vs the nursing staff. BUT, i will say,... as an ESN i have gotten a ton of support from staff. However I know to never be expecting any recognition for doing a good job, since, as i have been told, if you arent doing your job to the best of your ability, then you arent doing a good job, and if you arent doing a good job, THAT needs to be recognized.

I don't know that we have anything official. I do know that we should have one for being the best ass-kisser. Kissing patient ass is apparently where our bread and butter is, according to Press-Gainey and management...

The hospital I work in doesn't, as far as I know.

On my floor, you end up as charge nurse and get worked even harder for a tiny amount of extra money.

At the hospital I did my last two clinicals at, my preceptor said they used to give out little things, like pins to attach to your scrubs that tell everyone how long you've been working there, and there would be an annual BBQ, too. She said nowadays, though, they stopped that probably because it's not in the budget =_=;

"thank you for coming to work"

Or on my floor, "Thank you for not calling in sick so we don't have to scramble to replace you."

Ours doesn't do anything specific, but I think it is a pretty good place to work. We don't get harassed for calling in sick and they have even been known to advance our sick pay if we don't have enough built up to cover our hours we missed. They buy snacks once in a while and they almost always have free cookies, sandwiches, or salads in the kitchen. They are willing to work with us on scheduling around classes, our kids' activities, and whatever else comes up.

We do get gifts for Nurses' Week and Christmas...and they are actually pretty decent gifts!
