How the heck was I supposed to answer this interview question?

I think I'm having interview PTSD. :crying2:

I had an interview today for a job I'm really interested in - at one point, they asked for a scenario wherein a patient went downhill really quickly, and wanted to know how I reacted. I talked about one patient who was fine the first time I checked on him, with labored resps and cyanosis when I looked back in 30 minutes later. I called a MET team, then coded him, then he went to ICU. What was I supposed to say on this one?!? I feel like I blew it.

Well think about why they asked the question... what were they looking for...

In this case.... you noted a major change ... you immediately looked for help, the patients condition got worse... you again increase the need for more urgent care... the patient recovered from the code and was sent to ICU .... Thus you saved the life of the patient by your quick thinking.....

Yea... your right ... you should not be hired........ I want someone who doesnt know their head from their .....hehehehehehehehe

You did GREAT dont beat yourself up... if they dont hire you, they are the nurses that would look at the patient then give report to the next shift "Well, they turned blue but, I thought it was just because it was real cold in the room so i turned up the heater"

IDK maybe say something like stay with the client, call the charge nurse to come to the room with the chart, call the cna to come take a current VS..including o2 sat. and ask charge nurse did she want to call a code.. Idk I might have a diff. time with that too.

Thank you all so much for your encouragement! It means a lot - my husband is also appreciative because you're keeping me from obsessing.

They said I should hear back by next Tuesday or Wednesday, so I'll keep you posted! (They also mentioned when orientation started and asked if that would be do-able...I suppose if they thought I was a complete moron, they wouldn't have thrown out that little tidbit...)

No word yet - I'm thinking this is a bad sign, but who knows. The right job for me is out there somewhere, so I'm just going to be patient and keep trying. In the meantime, off to refinish a dresser...
