Today I've finally put in my two weeks at my current job with MR children. I've gotten so fed up with being forced to do things I am not certified to do that today when my sup told me to lie to a parent I just had it.
I'm still in the application process to the RN program but now I desperately need a job. I was hoping to get my CNA and do some work untill I (hopefully) start the RN program. However, I can't find any CNA programs near where I am in Virginia!!
Any ideas???

I was able to get my CNA through a local rural hospital that was putting on a training program. I have also heard about people getting their CNA by working for a nursing home. You would be trained on the job and then take the test to become a CNA. You just have to be sure that the training program the nursing home is offering is accredited through the state, or your training may not qualify you to take the test in some states. This has been my experience, at least. We even have vocational training through the local high schools for CNAs and our community college offers a CNA program that is separate from the nursing program. Good Luck!

Did you try the Virginia State Board of Nursing website? They always have a full list of the accredited nursing and CNA programs. Since I have no idea where youre at in VA

allnurses has a forum for cnas here: https://allnurses.com/forums/f265/
the virginia board of nursing regulates the cnas in your state.
http://www.dhp.virginia.gov/nursing/leg/excerptsforcnas.doc - this is your state law on cnas
http://www.asisvcs.com/indhome.asp?cpcat=0753nurse - this is information about getting cna registration in your state. there are links here to download the candidate handbook, test sites, and other information.
i could not find a specific listing of approved cna training programs, but i'll bet you can get that information by writing or calling the virginia nurse aid registry at:
good luck!

Have you tried calling local nursing homes? Around where I live, the nursing homes often offer CNA courses, and offer pay during this training. A good deal all around.
However, if you find this is available near you I would strongly recommend that you follow up with the links Daytonite has provided to ensure that the program is approved for the state regulations. I also would recommend you familiarize yourself with your CNA state laws.
I had a fantastic instructor and still work prn at the facility where i took my CNA course. This facility has been deficiency free on state inspections for several years now. However, I do know that not every facility takes quality of care and following state regulations so seriously.

I believe you can also become certified through the American Red Cross. Check with you local Red Cross chapter also.
Thanks everyone!! I'm calling around to the local nursing homes today to see what I can find out on that end!! I'm gonna follow up on all those links as well!! Thanks!
