if you want to get into prison health services, our company doesnt turn away new nurses we are a teaching facility.......... and prison health services is located all over the united states!! if you look into them for a job, they have many prisons around cali that they have staffing in...
it all depends on who / where you want to work!

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention my interests. I'm only interested in pediatrics and I'd love to work in the children's ER...
So, basically, how hard is it to get a job at a children's hospital?
Edit: Now that you mention it, I think I'd be up for working in a women's correctional facility/prison. I bet people aren't beating down the doors to work there! Lol. I'm serious...I'm going to look into that.

You are right there, no one is beating down those doors, women are the hardest to work with, in my prison we have 654 inmate right now 93 of them women................ i would take care of all of the other inmates if i didnt have to step foot in the female unit!!! hahaha
http://www.prisonhealthservices.com or you can go on Career builder to see what locations in california they are hireing for!

What's the avg salary for prison health? I'm assuming it would be above avg b/c that's something most people don't want to do. I'm easily bored so maybe prisoners will keep me alert! lol
By the way, what's wrong w/ the female prisoners? Enlighten me...

Each prison health services site has its own pay scale, due to the locations & prison size & such... they are great people check out their website or check out their jobs on career builders to find out what your area is paying!
Imagine yourself & 93 women , your the nurse, and 93 women have something to complain/*****/whine/moan/gripe about! plus do you know the estrogen level in a prison with all women?
not to discourage you, because we do have prisons that the female inmates have children & such, not that they are kept at the prison but their visiting isnt as strict as in my county prison. you could be exposed to women & their children.. sounds right up your alley!
Just not up mine, i am 37 & lack the patience for the whining!!! :argue:

I think the job market varies depending on where you live. In my area all my classmates had jobs lined up before we even started our last semester and many were in very cool specialities. Good luck.
Was that in CA? I'm pretty much only interested in living in CA. I know new grads who were looking to move to SF had it pretty hard. But then again, I'm sure it's hard to get ANY job in SF. I'm from Orange County so I'm interested in working there, San Diego or LA. Anyone have any nursing, job-info about those parts of CA? Thanks.
Nope, other side of the country. :) Check out the Calif. forum here for more specific info. Good luck.
career builder has 54 medical jobs posted on their site for Orange County. So check out that site & dive in , I saw jobs for RN's LPN's CNA's Doctor's, so on & so forth!
Good luck in your hunt!
Oh, ok..thanks! :typing

OK. I've just graduated from BSN in CA LA. It is hard to find a job. You have to keep an open mind and get your experience in anything that is offered by a hospital, like an adult medsurg, and after 1-2 years move on into your area of interest. I want to be a trauma/ER nurse. The chances for getting this job are very slim. I have attended job fairs and open houses. Most of the hospitals have 2-4 openings in ER, and the pool of applicants is huge. So, keep an open mind, look for whatever you can get and then you can either transfer or keep looking for a job you like.
