How to get trains as a med tech

Hi everyone, how are you all doing. I just finished my CNA class and passed the Red Cross exams. I'm interested in working as a med tech, but don't know how to go about. My intructor said i could go to living assistance and asked to be trains as a med tech. Today i went to a nursing home and the staff developer said they don't do that. I would have to take classes to be a med tech.

Can anyone help me how can i become a med tech. Where can i go or what should i do to be trains as a med tech. I have a recommendation letter from my intructor to be trains as a med tech, but i don't know if it will help.

I live in Garden Grove, CA and i'm very new to the healthcare field. Can anyone tell me which school or hopistal i could go to get trains.

What is the job discription of a med tech beside passing out medication. I would like to learn more. Thank you in advance.

Do they even have med techs in California?

You find that many licensed nurses do not approve of med techs. Therefore getting information on this BB on classes to become one may be hard to come by.

I may be wrong but don't most places require you actually work for at least a year before taking classes for med tech.

I became a med-tech while waiting to get into nursing school. I was hired at an assisted living facility and worked as a resident care assistant. After I knew the residents by face & name and was familiar with with the facility I was sent to the all day med class. Please keep in mind this is ASSISTED living not LTC.

I dont think they have med techs in CA..I live in CA....I never ssen a CNA give meds before in the hospital in CA..

I work in for a company that has several developmentally disabled group homes. and an Assisted Living.

The only two environments that I know of where med techs are used are:

Assisted Living Facilities (not long term cares, there is a difference)

Disabled Group Homes

Either of these places will hire you and train you. However, in disabled group homes you are not called med techs per se, but "Direct Care Staff"

Also, in the place I work, you do not strictly pass meds, you also assist with activities of daily living, including getting them showered, dressed, etc.

Med techs do not make very much money, you actually would probably make more as a CNA. I know most of the people I train start at around 7.35 an/hr or so and I live in Riverside. Orange County probably does pay more though because of the cost of living difference.
