How to get hired

I have been working as a CNA in a long term/skilled nursing facility for the last three months. While the job is okay, I would really like to gain hospital experience. All the hospitals in my area you must apply online, are there any tips to make my application stand out? I have competed my pre-reqs for the nursing program and am applying to all my local schools, during the time that I have been working on pre-reqs I have earned one Associates degree and will earn a second Associates and the end of this school year.

I am in the same boat as you so I will watch this thread closely. I just started nursing school and a hospital rep came to our open house. She said that the hospital has an open house every year in March and if I went to that I could network with the people who hire.

I haven't heard anything from the hospitals when I apply online. But the website says that they get a lot of applications online and they can't respond to everyone.

The hospital rep said to apply for anything just to get my foot in the door. BTW around here they like CNA's to have one year of experience for hire.

Hope this bit of information helps :)

I do attach my resume, with education listed first followed by ceritfication and work experience. My current job is my only healthcare experience, I have 10 years in retail and 5 of those I was in managment. I have been including those jobs on my resume, because one job I was at for 8 years. The other 2.5 years while I worked part-time and went to school. Does it hurt me or help me to include my non-healthcare jobs on my resume? I felt that it would show that I have a stable job history, however if managers dont want to see that and only see healthcare related jobs I should remove them from my resume.
