I need this as my employer wants me to do some physicals. I am a little confused. Is it the same as CME? How do I register for the exam. The info on the website is very scattered and not well organized. What is the test agency, and test fee, certification ,etc. I did figure out that AANP membership can give me discount on a training for CME they provide. I am not sure if that is exactly the same thing ? Can someone shine some light on me? Thanks!

I might just set up shop at truck stops and rest areas and run around with a stethoscope selling DOT physicals. Buy one get a free T-shirt. I mean all it takes is a small medical bag and a computer with wifi.

Oh I did not see this before I saw Sauce NP's post.

I would explore getting creative and market to trucking companies and perhaps even come on job site so you have a "captive audience". Maybe see if the trucking company would be willing to foot the bill as a fringe benefit for their drivers. And remember that doing cash business is fun!

Everyone is in a rush these days, even myself. Ever since my proctologist added a drive thru it has saved so much time for my DREs...my posterior gets a little windburned but nothing a little petroleum jelly can't remedy. I appreciate the convenience.

I've been looking into getting certified too. Is the CMV Medical Examiner Training from AANP the same thing? You have one year of access to the study material and the price is only $150 if you are a member. That sure beats the $300-$400 range I've been seeing.

Actually, yes it is the DOT certification. See the description below:

CMV ME Training Course- 2015 UPDATED

**Once this course is purchased access to the content if available for one full year (365 days from date of purchase). The course content will no longer be available after one year. To receive credit you must complete the entire course in the one-year time frame.**

AANP's CMV Medical examiner (ME) training course is designed to ensure the medical examiner is educated on the core curriculum specification established by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).

The program is completed entirely online and delivered by an expert Nurse Practitioner. The program is divided into 12 subject modules with over 120 questions to test your comprehension. The run time for the entire course is approximately 6.2 hours and participant take approximately 3 hours to complete all the post-test questions. The Certificate of Completion is provided after successfully completing the entire program and the final evaluation is submitted. The certificate will be available for download and can be found in your "Portfolio" and on the course home page below all 12 modules.

*A practice study guide is available for download with each module. The study guides are divided into a question section and an answer section and may be used to review the material once a module is completed. It is recommended these study guides and all other resources be downloaded and saved for future reference and studying.

**Additional resource material links is provided on the first module. These documents and webpages are necessary to study for the course, certification exam and to use once a provider is certified and performing CMV medical exams. Bookmark all websites and save the documents in your computer for quick access.

The National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (National Registry) was developed by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to improve highway safety and driver health by requiring that medical examiners be trained and certified to effectively determine whether a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) driver meets FMCSA's physical qualification standards. The goal of the National Registry program is to promote and preserve the highest level of professional standards of training and care among medical examiners. To further that goal, the National Registry program requires that medical examiners performing CMV driver examinations be trained and certified.

This course offers 9.2 AANP CE Credit.

This ME training course conforms to FMCSA's training curriculum modules and topics on regulations and guidelines for conducting CMV driver medical examinations. FMCSA regulations and guidelines are reviewed regularly, and the training is updated as required. This course was last updated on March 1, 2015.

This course was planned in accordance with AANP CE Standards and Policies.

You should note, the DOT will hardly be the only paper you need. There are always not enough certificates for employers. As labor legisaltsion changes, they establish new requirements as well. Anyway, you'd better get prepared and collect a full set of docs. Have a look at the list of essential academic programs here to fill in the gap.

Hi all! I'm new to this site, and I started by checking out discussions on DOT physicals. They are the bane of my existence.

That being said, an NP at our clinic recently recommended DOT Study Guide to help me streamline the info. This made a huge difference for me!

It helped me pass the test, and I still reference it every shift or so for doing DOT physicals.

She gave me a discount code just for NPs to get 30% off any of the options on their site: "NP30"

I wanted to pass the word. Maybe it'll help one of you.

Thanks!
