In order to get a multi-state license you have to be a resident of, and maintain residency in, a member state of the Nurse Licensure Compact.

Hi: NY has an active Nurse Licensure Compact bill in it's state legislature. Write to your congressmen in support of this bill. The Governor of NY supports this bill. The president of the New York State chapter of the ANA has an informational video about the NLC on YouTube. 38 states, the US Virgin Islands, and Guam are now in the NLC. Nine more states have active bills. Many people thought that Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Washington State would never join the compact. They all just joined.

As someone who has been writing letters to congressmen for the past six years, I can tell you that your voice does make a difference.  Let your representatives know how not having a Compact license has interfered with your ability to give the wonderful patient care that we nurses are known for.
