How to figure out my prespective GPA

Published

I know it is just a simple math equation, but I have no clue how to figure it with the number of credit hours and grade. Anyone know the equation?

It may be different with different schools, but this is how the DallasCCD does it:

If you have 4 credit class, it would look like this:

4 * 4 = 16 = A

4 * 3 = 12 = B

4 * 2 = 8 = C

4 * 1 = 4 = D

If you have a 3 credit class, it will look like this:

3 * 4 = 12 = A

3 * 3 = 9 = B

3 * 2 = 6 = C

3 * 1 = 3 = D

If you have taken one 4-credit class with a A, and one 3 credit class and made an B this is what you would do:

16 + 9 = 25

Then divide by the number of credits:

25/7=3.57

Your GPA would be 3.57.

Hope this helps.

Hey, I have that page bookmarked too! lol

I just wish the MetaCalculator worked. I wanted to use it to calculate my GPA for my RN-BSN. :(

I can't remember if I ever did it manually. If I did, I don't remember my GPA...guess I will have to do figure it up tonight. lol

I've taken 40 hours so far, and have my cumulative GPA from those courses, but how do I figure my current GPA including my old GPA in the total? Sorry you guys, its probably right infront of my face! I think I'm in the "special pples club" sometimes!

When I look up my grades I see this:

GPA2 grade pt average 3.312

GPA2 hrs attempted 77

GPA2 hrs earned 77

GPA2 hrs points 255

Add the credits for the class you are taking this semester. For example, I have 77, but I am taking a 3-credit class now. 77 + 3 = 80 credits

If I make an A in it, I will use the formula I posted earlier and know that is worth 12 points. I will then add it to the GPA points. 255 + 12 = 267.

Then divide the 267 by 80.

267 / 80 = 3.38

That will be my total GPA from all of the courses I have taken since 1991. (Yes I have some not so good grades from back then.) lol

If you do not have the points listed, you will probably need to calculate the points for all the classes, and divide by the total credits to find your future GPA.

:)

thanks so much! that is exactly what I needed!

YW, glad I could help. :)

Good luck in your classes.

Okay I have just come across I more GPA question. I have an A in a history class right now, but he is offering GREAT bonus points. (4-6 points added to our finally total score) So if I came out of the class with a 90% and did some bonus work, I could get a 94%. But being that I had an A before, would a higher % A make no difference to my GPA? I am seeing from the math equations above that it would all come out the same either way. Just wanted another opinion that this is right or wrong.

94% would still be considered an A. (Although, some schools give A-, A & A+. Then, it would be an A-.)

My school doesn't make a difference with this, an A is an A. 90-100+ = A

I do all extra credit, it doesn't matter my grade. In fact, I finished A&P with a 101%. With my extra credit I'm doing in my Music Appreciation class, I really only need to make a 47 on my concert assignment and my poem assignment. I just like to have that buffer, just incase something happens.

Go ahead and do the e.c, if you have time. If nothing else, you'll learn more, but if you happen to drop below that 90%, you'll have the benefit of already having the extra credit completed.

Good luck! :)
