How to eat during clinicals

Published

Hello everyone. I'm not going to make this a big deal although it is a little of a concern. I'm very nervous about doing clinicals for the first time. I also have acid reflux and I hear some how nurses and nursing students going all day without peeing or eating. Is this an exaggeration? I need to be able to eat some anything during clinicals even if it's a handful of nuts. If I am hungry for too long I feel very sick. Is there a way to do this? To be able to eat and pee when needed? Thanks.

We used the bathroom when we needed too and ate when we were hungry. We got a 30 min lunch and if we wanted to eat a snack we could in the break room.

Even if you don't have a chance to sit down and eat a full meal, most places wont mind at all if you step into the breakroom to munch on a small snack. A few nurses on our floor enjoy eating spoonfuls of little peanut butter cups because protein-rich foods keep the body feeling full longer!

If eating were impossible for nurses at work ... we'd all be thin.

There is always time to eat something. Just to be on the safe side, take some quick, easy, high-protein snacks to work with you that you can grab as needed.

I think it gets counteracted by the ever-present donuts and junk food in the break room!

:roflmao:

We got over an hour lunch break during my clinical rotations. To be honest with you, clinical is overrated and I think youre overreacting a bit. Youre assigned one/two patients and after completing your head to toe assessments and occasionally doing a med pass, there isnt really much else to do.

Avoid bringing dishes that need to be microwaved. You will find there is always somebody ahead of you to use it.

Don't worry. You'll only have one to two patients at most to begin with so you have plenty of time to use the bathroom or grab a snack. Our nursing instructor also always made sure we got a lunch break. We would all leave the floor together to go down to the cafeteria to eat, and we would all come back on the floor together.
