How doable is A&P in summer school???

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hi all!

Need some advice. I am trying to figure out my schedule for fall. I am trying to get into an accelerated bachelors program but must complete the pre reqs first. I will need to have all pre reqs completed by next August to apply for the program commencing Jan 2012. In order to meet this deadline I may have to take A&P during the summer. If I don't take them in the summer I will have to wait longer before I can apply to the program. The program starts each January so I would have to wait until January 2013. I know A&P is hard and alot of information during the regular semester so I know it will be fast and difficult during the summer. I will not be taking any other class with it but I will be working full time. Has anyone done this? Give thoughts and advice please.

Whew! I feel so much better since you are doing what I will be doing. I definitely want an A! Trying to get into the ABSN at Winston Salem State. How do you manage? What is your work/school/study schedule?

I am actually applying the WSSU's ABSN this round, haha! Well I work as a PT aide M-F. I was able to finagle a half-day on Monday and just make the hours up on the other days which was good. I do study weekends, and nights but I do have time off to play to (as I am currently in wrightsville beach :) ) I found a great site with lecture notes that helps too:

Anatomy and Physiology II

The lecture notes really help get the main points across. I am a very tactile learner so I have to re-write the notes and that takes a while, but it hasn't let me down yet!

Good luck!

Great! I want to keep in contact so I will know how the program goes and what to expect. So you are finishing up your pre reqs now and applying in Aug for Jan 2011?

Yep, I am going to apply in Aug for Jan. I actually will finish my pre-reqs in the fall (Micro and Developmental Psyc). I will be applying to UNC (24 month option), WSSU ABSN, and Watts (through Duke Hospital). I would love to finish the program in 13 months but UNC's program is pretty impressive (4th or 5th in NIH funding) and I love UNC. But definitley keep in touch and I will let you know how its going.

I am about to start A&P1 on Tues. I work full time also and this is a 10 week course that meets twice a week. Good Luck!

Relysh, where are you going to school? I plan to apply in Aug for Jan start as well. I am taking both A&P's this summer, along with their labs and Chemistry. Oh, and Gen Psych while I'm at it. My load is not easy for sure but I knew that going in. I have 2 young kids at home and also run my business from home.

You can do it! Focus, and make it happen. Good luck and remember, you get out of it what you put into it. And that goes for everything in life. :)

I am attending Calhoun Comm. College. I can not wait to start this class but am a little scared! I absolutlybelieve that you get back what you put in.

Well, my school offers A&P 1 and 2 together in an 8 week course so I'm sure it's doable.

I did it the easy way. I took A&P as a continuing education course first. When I took A&P for credit, it was a huge help. By taking the course first as a continuing education course you are really prepared to face the more difficult A&P course for credit. I saw so many of my friends go down the drain with their GPAs because of a killer A&P course.

Taking A&P as a continuing education course first, runs a few more bucks but it gives you a great background to knock A&P out of the park. I took Medical Terminology and A&P at Ocean County College and I became very confident with my science prerequisites for nursing.
