  1. Thanks for the info. I know that if you are funded you get a $600/month stipend but that isn't much to live off so I was wondering how you and anyone else going through the program will manage financially. Are going to live off savings, work part-time, loan money, etc. I'm just trying to get an idea of how others make it through. I am a single and live alone so I'm responsible for all of my own living expenses and have no other support.

  3. Hello all, Those of you that are going through the program beginning January 2012, please continue to post about your experiences and any useful information for those of us wishing to enter the program next year. I plan to apply this August for 2013 and would love to know what your schedule is like and how you manage as you go through the program. Thanks and goodluck to you all!
  4. Congrats to all that were accepted. I'm thinking of applying for 2013, I have one more pre req to take. I'm trying to figure out how I can make this work out since this is an accelerated program and you can't work. How are you all going to afford not working for a year? Did you just save up alot of money first and plan to live off savings for 13 months?
  5. I want to apply for WSSU ABSN also. I will be starting pre reqs in the fall and if all goes well I will apply for Jan 2012. If I am able to take classes according to my plan I may have to take A&P during the summer at WSSU so let me know how it goes. Best of luck to you!
  6. Great! I want to keep in contact so I will know how the program goes and what to expect. So you are finishing up your pre reqs now and applying in Aug for Jan 2011?
  7. Whew! I feel so much better since you are doing what I will be doing. I definitely want an A! Trying to get into the ABSN at Winston Salem State. How do you manage? What is your work/school/study schedule?
  8. Thanks for the info and goodluck to you!
  9. Thanks! I will be taking it alone but working full time. That was my reservation. I feel a little better about this now.
  10. Wish I didn't have to work! I wouldn't be stressed about taking it in the summer if I didn't have to work. Is this the only class that you are taking?
  11. I know it is doable. I guess I just wanted to know how difficult. I expect to study lots. It is a six week class and meets M-F for 2.5 hours. I work full time during the day but I have down time at work to study and I will have an hour before class to study and will also study during lunch. Are you working full time?
  12. Hi all! Need some advice. I am trying to figure out my schedule for fall. I am trying to get into an accelerated bachelors program but must complete the pre reqs first. I will need to have all pre reqs completed by next August to apply for the program commencing Jan 2012. In order to meet this deadline I may have to take A&P during the summer. If I don't take them in the summer I will have to wait longer before I can apply to the program. The program starts each January so I would have to wait until January 2013. I know A&P is hard and alot of information during the regular semester so I know it will be fast and difficult during the summer. I will not be taking any other class with it but I will be working full time. Has anyone done this? Give thoughts and advice please.
  13. Are you going into the accerlated program at WSSU and have you been accepted already? I am interested in the program at WSSU and would like more info from someone in the program.
  14. Thanks Itsthedude! I checked that link out; however, I would still like to hear from some people that current students or graduates to learn more about their experiences. Thanks Celclt, I'm going to start pre reqs this summer. I just didn't want to fail nursing school if I had problems with blood draws and IVs. I am pretty good with studying. I have a BS in business management and MBA. I have always wanted to be nurse and I bored out of my mind and unchallenged in my current job. Haven't been able to progress the way that I thought I would either. I did the family while I was in undergrad and didn't get work experience until about a year after I graduated which made it difficult to get a job that I had the education for. I have ended up working in jobs where I am over qualified for. I'm getting older so I decided that I should switch to a career that I would find challenging with growth potential and something that I have always had an interest in. My friends always call me Dr. Henderson because I am always reading something related to health and disease. Enough about me, how is your new job going???
  15. I was also considering taking a phlebotomy course prior to nursing. I'm a little nervous about being able to draw blood and start IVs so was worried that I would fail nursing school if I had problems with that. That is my only hesitation about nursing school. I know that it will be hard work and lots of studying which I am prepared to do. Is there alot of emphasis placed on this skill during nursing school or is this skill normally learned on the job?
