how do you challenge the lvn boards as a paramedic. been a medic for 5 yrs, trying to get into a rn program now, but this would cut a lot of time out of it. anyone with info please contact me asap. thank you so very much.
Sorry, but you cannot challenge the LVN exam. Only way that you can is if you were a medic in the military and were a corpsman. Anyone else requires that they attended an approved school of nursing. And if you were a corpsman, and challenged the PN exam, the only two states that you could work in would be CA and VA; all other states have the approved school requirement.
Paramedic certification only gets you into the Excelsior program but that program is not accepted for licensure in CA, even with endorsement later on.
Out of the 51 months needed to "challenge" the CA LVN Board, paramedic experience can only be 8 months maximum. The rest of the experience would have to be in an inpatient hospital or long term/skilled facility. If you had strictly paramedic experience, it would not qualify as they want most of your paid experience to be inpatient but allows 8 months outpatient type experience such as paramedic.
Ms suzanne4, thank you so much for the information. I am an Army Medic and also working on EMT-Paramedic. I have been looking for an answer for that same question and with your tip, you created a shortcut to my plan. By the time I get back from deployment, i will be taking the National Registry for Paramedic. So hopefully being an ArmyMedic and a Nationally registered Paramedic will make me qualify to challenge Calif LVN. To become an RN is the goal. EMT-P and LVN will definitely help me find job opportunities and a good nursing school.:)
