How do you deal with workplace drama?

Published

I landed what I thought would be an awesome job at a Vascular Surgeons office in November. Everything was fine and dandy the first two months.. lately the drama has been ridiculous between the medical assistants, nurses, basically everyone. How do you guys deal with drama? I turned down another job for this position and I'm starting to second guess my descision.

If you have a coffee around pick it up when people start talking and take a long sip. Literally takes you out of the conversation. I second what everyone here as said - don't engage in any way. Smile, do your job, when they start kveching, find something else to do.

How do I deal with workplace drama? EASY. I don't. I disengage. And walk away. And keep out of the rumor mill.

It's best to avoid it, as everyone has said. It's not always that easy, though. Like if the gossip is about YOU! Or you are just getting bad vibes about your standing in the organization, or some other difficult-to-avoid situation.

Not my monkey, not my circus.

The last correctional environment I worked in had terrible drama. Everyone from management to staff was new with the exception of 1 nurse. People were spreading rumors about certain people & there was a tiff between the nurses & the medical office staff. I would listen to people talk about it but never put my 0.2¢ in. I didn't want to be dragged into this drama that had nothing to do with me. If they would ask my opinion I just wouldn't give it. That way there was no animosity from anyone because I "chose a side".

It honestly was a terrible work environment & I didn't stay there long. I was glad when I resigned.

Just don't get involved, do your job, and keep it moving. You're at work, you shouldn't have time to deal with drama.

I love that quote! I'll deff be posting it in the office Monday.. thank you!
