I graduate in 3 1/2 months and for the past year +. Its this one student that is like a bully. She walks around all day in class and clinical, saying and these are her exact words. " I don't like anybody in this (f'ing word) class? I only like so and so and just rude this girl had to have said this over 500 times since I've been in this program plus she's rude and evil. I asked her why do she say that she said " I don't give a f, because I don't" mind you it was two teachers that went to the DON about her and she did nothing. A few classmates and nothing gets done. I swear its taking all of me not to literally go off. She does this all day every day and the teachers doesn't do anything about it. Its so hard to have a positive atmosphere in the class because of her. Its like high school all over again. I'm so stressed out as is and just to put up with it is really annoying me. How should I handle this? Have you ever dealt with something similar before? Thanks in advance!
When you submit your letter to the instructor regarding the offending student's behavior, be sure to forward a copy to the chair of the nursing department. That way, you are creating a paper trail, and no one in administration can later say they were unaware of the problem. Also, let it be known that you and the other students EXPECT something to be done about this student, and if no action is taken, you will be forced to pursue further action, i.e. Dean of Student Affairs.Unfortunately, when I was finishing nursing school a year-and-a-half ago, I had to write numerous letters to administration about a situation. If you don't put the fear of God into these people, they will most likely sweep all issues under the rug. You can't let them get away with that.
Again, don't forget that you are paying for an education!
Thank you so much Nel!
I did write the letters and sent them off and followed your advice. I probably used hostile learning environment a thousand times!
Just pray for me that I don't snap because she's going to know I was one of the people to write the letter (I don't care) and if she say something to me I honestly don't know how it'll end because that's how sick I am of her and her mouth.
If she says something to you, I would be honest and say something to the effect of: I did what I needed to do in order to maintain a proper learning environment. If she continues to harass, you let the administration know what is going on.
Whatever you do, remain above the fray. Don't get yourself in trouble!
Let us know what happens! Good luck.

Update!
The DON sent her a letter saying its a big chance she'll be dismissed. She was crying for about two hours todays. 3 classmates say they'll write papers on her behalf. Two instructors also wrote letters against her. One of the instructors- he wrote a 6 pages front and back paper on her.
She's meeting with the DON in the morning.
Let's hope that the DON does the right thing and boots her butt OUT.
If they allow her to remain in the program, she will most likely be placed on probation. And ANY infraction will send her out of the program.
If she stays, keep a watchful on her behavior and report all infractions to the DON. Please don't fall for the false tears. She is well aware of how she got into this situation.

Another update!
It really seems things have gotten 1,000 times worse.
She said the DON told her she's not going anywhere. She also said she and two of her friends (who she used to bully) wrote statements against one of the girls saying she cheats. She says she's going after everyone. So now when we walk in class its dirty looks and she's trying to play the victim. She's also turning everyone on each other saying their names were mentioned in the letter and saying she knows who wrote them because the DON let her read them and they were laughing about it. The class is definitely worse, another student left her recorder on and they were saying all these nasty things and saying how they were going to get revenge. It's so much drama! I feel like I'm about to burst, so yeah now they're piling up with letters back against us. Making it to something its not, her and her friends hate us and turning things around.
Whoa!
You need to request a face-to-fact meeting with the DON. This situation is not just unacceptable, it is also unprofessional. It is not fostering a productive learning environment.
You need to make sure that this student isn't just blowing smoke out of her butt. Confirm with the DON that student will remain in good standing. DON may refuse to discuss an individual student situation with you, due to privacy.
Be sure that you document dates and actions of the student. Present this to the DON. Get ready to go above their head to the Dean of Student Affairs. And if need be, get ready to go higher - Board of Regents.
Don't accept this!!!!! Your school needs to step and do what is right by the majority of students.
Again, you are paying for an education. They aren't doing YOU a favor. You have the power. You pay their salaries. Your ability to pass NCLEX is how they maintain their accreditation.
Yes, I agree ignore her, been through similar situation in the past. She is phishing, she is looking for bait, don't be that bait. You are almost at the finish line and you will not hear her voice/negativity ever again. Focus on the prize and take it one day at a time, trust me you made it this far, 3.5 months to go. Life have a way of humbling people. You will encounter some people with her personality in the field, this is early practice...don't let people take your bread and butter--that's yours, you earned it.

You're right. But how do you continue to ignore people that get around you and talk sh*t about you ( sorry for the language) in your face and laugh and pick on you constantly..how? And the more you ignoring them the bolder they get. And think you're scared of them.
