Hello, I will be starting the Nursing Program in Spring from Chamberlain College in Pearland, Houston Texas, is it possible for me to work full time during this program? How is the professors in the school. Are they helping or not? Thanks.

Hello, and Welcome to Allnurses!

I'm not familiar with the program you're talking about, but I thought I'd stop by and say "We're glad you're here!" Hopefully someone will come along shortly who can advise you.

One thing you may want to consider is that nursing programs are VERY intense, and full-time work is generally not recommended for students. You will not just be sitting in a classroom for several hours a day or doing clinicals, you will need a lot of study time, preparation for exams and writing care plans. This is not really compatible with a 40-hour work week.

Whatever you decide to do, I wish you the very best of luck. Take care.

thread moved to Chamberlain for best response.

Chamberlain is very fast paced. They do not offer night classes so if your already working during the day you can plan to have to quit that job. I spoke to some students who are getting ready to graduate and they said you usually do clinicals 12 hours a day twice a week then you will have 2 days of lecture and lab. So plan on 4 full days a week during the day. Also, if the nurses you are paired with work an evening or night shift.. you will be working the evening or night shift.. I have always heard to expect to work only part time if you have to work at all and make sure its a flexible job. I think you can only miss 1 clinical. Period. And the number 1 thing they said at orientation is that nursing school does Not work around your schedule - you work around it's schedule.

Thanks so much for the advise. I really appreciate, I will work towards it.

Hey!! I'm currently in the waiting process for the Pearland campus. How are you liking it so far?? Are you still able to work full time??

Hey! Yes, am still working full time. Are you Pre-licensure student or transition student? Am a pre-licensure student. I love the program so far; the faculty are good, and they work with you. The only thing about it is "Time Management". If you can manage your time very well, you will be alright for the first session but for the second session that is tri-factor, you may want to readjust yourself. Overall, is a great school and a great place to be. You will not regret you come to Chamberlain.

Awesome!! Thank you soo much for replying!!

I'm pre-licensure, so I'll have to do the full 3yrs as well. That's really comforting to know I'll still be able to work full time for a little while. As far as tuition goes, are you dishing out a large amount out of pocket??

Sooo glad to finally talk to someone about the Pearland campus. Lol. Also, do you have to buy your uniforms within the 1st yr??

You are welcome! You do not have to do 3yrs if you already have some prerequisites. I will not use 3yrs because I already have some courses that transferred. If I followed the plan they gave me, I suppose to finished next year fall but I switched my schedule. It makes it be 2yrs. As far as tuition, if you have Financial Aid, you should be fine but if not you did not have, may want to think of out of pocket. I took a loan to pay for my classes, and I did not have much to pay out of pocket for now. Yes! You will have to buy uniform for the first semester due to your lab class that you will be having in second 8 weeks session.

Unfortunately I do not have any prereqs that will transfer, so I must do the full 3yrs. && rather it's next fall or 2 falls from now, you'll have your BSN!! whoop whoop!! Lol!!

If accepted, will they go over the tuition for the whole program or just that particular session?? And did you have to buy their insurance??

Goodness, I apologize for these questions. If only I'd wait for an acceptance or rejection letter. Lol!! Do you know if we're to purchase the uniforms once or annually?? A co-worker of mine's was asking me about it and I honestly couldn't answer her. ~TIA~

Yes, they will go over the whole tuition for the entire program with you. If you are entitled to financial aid and loan, they will calculate everything. You did not have to apologize, is a good question, you need to know everything, so as to prepare. You have to purchase the uniform once, the uniform is just for lab and clinical.

Awesome!! Thank you so much!! Girrrl!! The wait is and will continue to kill me. Lmao!! Hopefully I'll see you around starting in May!! Good luck this semester!!
