How to become a nurse in italy?

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone! Next year my fiance will petition me in Italy. I am a registered nurse here in the Philippines. How can I practice being an RN in Italy? I know that I need to take their board exam...but do do anyone know how long will it take to master the italian language so I can make it in their Language Exam and Board Exam? I am planning to enrol basic italian language course here in the Philippines while waiting for my petition. I also heard that there are two hospitals in Italy that use English as the medium of communication. Any idea in what city this hospitals are? thanks thanks:D

Iluvicu,

I am a male Operating Room nurse in the Unites States and also wish to find out how to practice at an english speaking hospital in Rome. If you wish to share information I would be delighted. Maybe we can help each other.

Doug

I'm an NP interested in working in Italy. Just started my search. Have you had any luck finding an English speaking hospital?

Greetings MJ,

I have found several english speaking hospitals in Rome and Milan. Rome American Hospital, Salvator Mundi Hosp., Milan Clinic and Mauro Leonardis Hospital.

The difficulty lies in retaking the italian nursing boards, complete with a language profeciency exam, and also to be petitioned (sponsored) by an italian hospital to gain the necessary licensure from the country.

Like the US, Italy also has a nursing shortage, yet the red tape seems monumental to gain employment.

I am in the process of persuing another option being the Red Cross and other international aid agencies that may accept a US license.

I hope that this information is of some assistance.

It will take years to master a foreign language. I can understand Italian quite a bit, but I can't speak, or write it at all. Learning a foreign language takes practice. Imerse yourself into the language. Watch Italian films (they're great BTW), practice with Italian speaking people. Look for pen pals from Italy who can help you with your writen Italian. The basic course that you're going to enroll in will help you get around the cities, but wont help you in the work force. See if your fiancee can give you an Italian medical dictionary to help you out. Read Italian books and magazines. Good Luck

Are any of those military hospitals? If they're military hospitals do you have to be a US citizen in order to work there? I've heard from others that have tried but they were denied because you had to be a US citizen in order to work there.

Where do you get the idea everyone can come to the US? The US has been under retrogression since Oct 06 and very hard for nurses to get to the US.

Any updates regarding nursing career in italy? I'm very much interested, Thank you! :)
