Houston, TX: Harris Health and/or Ben Taub Fall 2023 Nurse Residency

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello all,

In searching for information about the Nurse Residency Fall 2023 cohort for Ben Taub Hospital / Harris Health in Houston, I have found threads for Summer 2023 cohort, Spring 2023, and others prior. I have not found a thread established yet for the fall 2023 cohort or applicants, and so I decided to start one.

I just received an offer for the ED at Ben Taub. I would love to connect with others in my cohort. It is my understanding that LBJ nurses will train with Ben Taub nurses at least initially. Please comment if you are interviewing for or have accepted a position with Harris Health for the fall cohort! Thanks y'all!

Congratulations!! I applied for their Spring 2024 cohort. How soon did they reach out to you after you applied? And I also saw that they have a GPA requirement, are they strict on that too?

Sorry for all the questions, I can't seem to find answers elsewhere.

I applied in I believe June, if I recall correctly. I was applying lots of places and they're kind of a blur for me, but actually Harris Health was my top choice. I received a call to interview in mid-July and they actually scheduled me the next day for an interview. When I went to interview, there were 3 other applicants in the hallway at the same time I was there, and they were apparently doing interviews all day. I did a panel interview with I believe 5 ladies! It was a little intimidating, but they all seemed approachable. They asked me questions about myself, my background, and why I was interested in ED and then Harris Health particularly. Then they gave me a sample report sheet with (I believe) 6 patients on it. The report sheet had basic demographic info and vitals, and they asked me questions about who would I assess first and second, what would be my order of operations and why, what interventions would I start with, etc. I am not sure if I got all of the questions correct, but I just tried to use my "nurse brain" and say what seemed like the safest and most logical approach. After that, I actually received an offer the same day and accepted it. As for GPA, I am not sure how strict they are exactly, but I think you either have to have above 3.0 or above 3.5 (I'm not sure which but I know there is a minimum). I do know we have to submit our official transcripts. Good luck!
