Houston schools: TWU or UT ?

Specializes in 5th Semester - Graduation Dec '09!.

I'm planning on applying at UT at Houston and Texas Womans University. My sister graduated with her BSN in '96 from TWU and keeps pushing for me to go there. I'm really open to both, but was curious if anyone is or has attending either school. My sister told me that UT Houston is kinda mean to their students; students do poorly in a class they will kick you out (not willing to work with you) unlike TWU, where they are more understanding and laxed with their students, bla, bla, bla. I am also considering UTMB in Galveston--any thoughts or advice? Thanks Everyone!

UT has 5 semesters and TWU has 4. Hmm..what else.. I go to TWU-Houston, if you have any questions, email me.

UT Houston has the most impossible phone navigation. All you can do is leave a message and hope that it'll get answered. I might not apply just because it's given me so much trouble, which I consider reflective of the whole school.

I had problems with them at orientation - I emailed the BSN coordinator and he personally emailed me back with the time and date of the orientation - a few of us showed up that day and they told us it was on another day. Unfortunately, it was quite a long drive for us to get to the school and having to come back was a big pain.

However, I didn't like TWU's 'vibe' at their orientation - their "we're the best blahblahblah' attitude, but the school turned out alright. Too bad we're stuck in the old building until Fall of 06..which is when I graduate! I REEEALLY liked UT's new nursing campus!

It has been a long time since I logged on here, but I wanted to check the Texas section and I hope I can help.

I am currently a student at UT-Houston (its my second semester)....let me know if you have any questions and I'll try to answer them quickly for you.

I was intersted in both although my GPA is not the best which one is easier to get into?

TWU goes solely on GPA, so probably UT-HSC! good luck :-)

UT bases it on a number of things....first they narrow down the top 25% based on GPA. Then those (usually around 400) come in for a writing sample/interview. Then they pick 140 out of that group, looking at the writing sample, grades, background, etc. So, I wouldn't say its easier either way.

GoddessSue,

When does one find out if they are one of the 140?

Thanks!

The high GPA for UTH is only one of the ways of getting into the school. I knew a guy that had a low gpa 2.8 and was accepted because he had some experience and excellent references. I knew another girl that had a lvn background with a 3.6 and excellent references and also was accepted.
