Houston RN I, Nurse Residency- trouble finding job listing online

U.S.A. Texas

Can anyone help me find the link to job postings for new graduate nurses? It seems a lot of the hospitals in Houston have mandatory residency/internship programs to get new graduates into the hospital system and only hire a couple of times a year. That's fine. Maybe jobs aren't posted right now? The only listings I can find are the ones for experienced nurses. The jobs around where I am from are listed differently so I think I'm just having trouble searching for the right thing. And HR at Nurse Recruiters at all those big hospitals are pretty hard to get on the phone/email for help.

I live in MS, graduated with BSN in May from an AL school, and am hoping to move to Houston, TX. I haven't looked for a job yet because my foot is broken (and has been for 14 months) and I'm finally having surgery this week to remove my fibular sesamoid. Since this has been such a chronic thing I want to ensure it's totally healed before starting work, so probably don't want to start work before late August or September.

Looking at Methodist, Memorial Hermann, Ben Taub, Texas Children's, St. Lukes, etc. I'm interested in ICU adult or pediatric, especially cardiac. I know jobs can be hard to land, but I'm not going to get any if I can't apply!

Can anyone help please! Thanks!

Go to indeed.com or any job search engine (juju.com, Texas nurses association, etc) and type in New Graduate RN or RN Internship and subscribe to the alerts. Or you can go to the hospital website and search.

In most cases - for the organizations listed by the OP -- the ONLY way in for a new grad is via an internship or residency. New grads are not eligible for other jobs. Those residency slots are filled very quickly by graduates from BSN programs that used those hospitals for clinical rotations. There are not enough jobs for graduates of local nursing programs in the Houston area, so the OPs odds for success are very slim.

If you're determined to move to the Houston area, I would suggest focusing on the exurbs (farther out than suburbs) like Conroe, Pasadena, Baytown, etc. to get that first year of experience.

Most of the residency positions have already been posted and filled for the may grads. October residency and January residency are available at many of the hospitals. If you call nurse recruitment they should be able to tell you when the applications will open.

Can someone tell me the pay for new grad RNs in Houston? I'm starting nursing this fall after being a surgical tech for 12 years, and I have been offered two positions there and both put me back 10 years to what I have made in Dallas. After I graduate, I plan to run for the hills if RN pay is just as bad in Houston.

Salary depends. Hermann new grads are about $25/hour base pay with the geographic differential, MD Anderson $27-28, I've heard St Luke's is $29, Ben Taub is $28.00, UTMB $27. Shift differentials range from $4.00-6.00/hour for nights depending on the hospital. Also, I believe the cost of living here is cheaper than Dallas area. Most med center hospitals you have to pay for parking which can be anywhere from $40 to over $100/month. Hope that helps a little.

Thanks for the comments so far. I have only found the contact info of a nurse recruiter at one of the hospitals. And only Ben Taub have I been able to find an actual GN application. If anyone could help me locate the job title or knows the requisition number that would be a HUGE help. Feeling pretty stupid.

I'm currently looking for a new grad position in Houston and I'm not having much luck either. I went through the summer residency applications with no luck so now I'm starting again for the fall ones. I think we're between application periods though because Harris Health (Ben Taub) is the only one currently open. I called Memorial Hermann about a month ago and they said there is an October application, but I'm not sure when it opens. I'm pretty sure St. Luke's should have one too, but again, it's not posted yet.
