Houston Nursing Residency Summer 2025

Published

Hiiiii everyone! I know this is a little early, but I am graduating in May 2025 and will be applying to Houston Nurse Residencies. I didn't see a forum for this 🙂 since applications haven't started in the next few weeks, so I just wanted to make this for more info! Does anyone know all the application opening dates for TCH, MH, Methodist, etc.? And any advice/insights/interview tips related to nursing residencies?

I applied to multiple methodist hospitals but they all still say application received except willowbrook says under review. has anyone had a status change for the other locations?

For me, noo. It's nerve racking

I received a pre-screening appt for Methodist. The screening is tomorrow and I'm so nervous. Does anybody know what questions are asked during the pre-screening?

Congrats! Can I ask which location it is?

Congrats and good luck! Which location are you doing the screening for?

I need advice pleaseeee
I got a job offer( yayyyy )for labor and delivery at UTMB butttt it's in Galveston and I would prefer to work at the Hermann children's in the med center in Houston but I haven't heard anything yet since their application doesn't close till next week and it's not really guaranteed.
The L&D unit wants to hear back by next Tuesday but I don't know if I'll hear back from the Hermann Children's by then. Hermann Children's is my top choice because I want to work with a broader population especially cause when I start doing travel nursing (it may be easier to get more contracts as a pedi nurse)I don't want to accept a job offer then take it back if I get an offer from the hermann childrens but also the children hospital may not be guaranteed till I go through interviews and all that. Also Idek if I want to stay in Galveston tbh. It's still kind of early in the job application process for nurse residencies and I want to keep my options open. IDK if I should ask the L&D unit for an extra week to think about their offer even tho I already asked them to give me till next Tuesday (they initially wanted an offer by today)

girl take the offer! it's so hard to get interviews period and UTMB is a great place to start.

Congrats! 1000% take the offer. Still continue with your other applications and if you get another offer you'd prefer, take that one and turn this one down. Stay loyal to you and what's best for you, these positions anticipate people will back out before the job actually starts. And they want an answer soon because there is a line of people waiting to take this job. Just because you accept the offer you can still keep your options open, the job doesn't start for another 5 months.

so true, we had recruiters come speak to us and it was so discouraging because they emphasized how competitive it was especially in Houston. I'm definitely leaning towards taking the offer.

Thank you!! I'm definitely leaning towards taking the offer. The only thing is the location. The initial plan was to move home and save up after I graduated but I may have to stay on the island and find an apartment

Hi everyone! Has anyone heard anything from Methodist? If so, what unit/location?

Hi guys I joined the virtual information session for HM Woodlands location and here's what I gathered that I found important in case you couldn't make it (also I missed the first 10 minutes so if you can make it to another session I'd definitely go):

  • Most interviews happen at prescreen events so if you're invited to one I would go
  • If you don't get invited to a prescreen that's not a definite no
  • Interviews are mostly situational (tell us about a time you had this happen? Have you ever had a time you felt like this?)
  • Depending on the hospital, you can interview for a unit and not get an offer but get an offer for another unit if they're still interested in you
  • Most new grads are placed in medsurg
  • Most start dates are end of June- mid July
  • Clinical hours during residency is a mix of nights and days
  • all education sessions are days
  • After orienting for a few weeks you work your preceptor's shift
  • Most people get the shift they want by the time they're done with residency

What is the prescreening step?
