Houston GN Residency programs 2018

Nurses Career Support

Hi! I just wanted to start a thread to get info and keep each other updated on the GN residencies available in the Houston area. So far, I have applied to TCH, Houston Methodist, and Harris Health. I also signed up for Memorial Hermann's Pre-Match Day taking place this Saturday 2/17/18!

Was the rejection letter by email or mail? I'm asking because I too applied to memorial city but haven't heard anything yet. I have an interview with another Memorial Hermann campus this week but don't know if that disqualifies me from interviewing with another campus.

HCA did email me-check your spam folder! Thats where mine was. They just asked my hospital preference and such and said they'd select people for interviews in April.

The rejection letter was sent through e-mail Friday evening. Are you also applying to Woman's Services ad well? They might be contacting by specialties.

HCA sent me an e-mail weeks ago asking my preferred location, specialty and reason why I have chosen it. Is that the e-mail you are talking about too?

Thank you! Yes I am also applying to woman's services.

Yes that is the email I'm referring to. Then I got an email inviting me to the mixer, after I RSVP'd the recruiter said that the hiring event is in April and the invite will be sent out within the next few weeks.

Ok perfect! I have also RSVP for that event :)

If you don't mind me asking, when did you receive your invitation to the 2nd round of interviews for Methodist? I'm getting pretty nervous because I also applied to Sugar Land as my first choice and the West campus as my 2nd choice. I had a pre-screening interview on 3/3, maybe that has something to do with it.

I received a phone call Friday morning to schedule for a 1 hour time slot. I believe it also goes by specialties and/or waves. I had a friend complete the second round Friday morning for the ICU.

No, I just had the initial FaceTime on 2/28.

My first choice was the medical center and my second choice was sugar land. I'm starting to get nervous since some of you guys have heard back...

Hi everyone! Congrats to us all for finally making it to this point!

Quick intro: I graduated Dec. 17 and passed my boards last month. This is my first round of really focusing and applying for jobs and it's making me wish I would have done so last semester because now I'm just anxiously waiting everyday to get things going. Units I'd prefer are ER/EC, intermediate care, or med/surg.

I've applied to HCA, Harris Health, Memorial Hermann, Methodist, St. Lukes, MDA...I think 1 or 2 more but can't remember. So far I've heard back from HCA and Memorial Hermann SW, and got a rejection letter from MDA (non-residency position, past experience wasn't required but preferred).

I didn't know Methodist had a pre-screening event until a few days ago from a friend who was invited - so that means I didn't make it with them.

Has anyone who attended the info session for Harris Health heard back? I know it's early but going by previous semesters they used to send out a thank you note for attending... Not sure if that's still a thing.

Also, has anyone looked/applied to other non-hospital jobs? I'm considering it in case a residency spot doesn't pan out.

I got an email yesterday inviting me to the HCA hiring event

Specializes in Cardiovascular-Transplant ICU/Trauma ICU.

Hi everyone. I did a FaceTime interview on March 9th for the methodist TMC. I was not able to attend the HCA informational session on march 14th because I live in Dallas. However, I send my application on March 16th. I haven't heard anything back from either places. Starting to get nervous now

Hi! Is this the event where they will be doing interviews on the spot March 27-29? If it is, good! I saw an ad for it on FB but wasn't sure if it was for experienced nurses only.

Congrats on getting an interview with Methodist! The fact that they asked for a FaceTime interview already says a lot!

Ok, good to know I'm not the only one waiting to hear from Harris Health. But if you do, please keep up posted.

HCA is another hospital system, which if you're interested you could also apply for their residency program. Their program is called StaRN and they have several hospitals throughout Houston and other cities.
