Houston GN internship?

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I am a recent Grad with my BSN and just passed my Nclex..I am having a hard time finding a GN internship in the Houston area. I am trying to stay away from the med center because i just dont think its worth all the hassel. I am looking into the areas of NICU, nursery or as last resort L&D (thats about all the adult people i want to work with). Already applied to hermann, clear lake, st lukes, and houston northwest and wasnt chosen for these past intership positions. Can anyone tell me if they know if any other internships that I can apply for right now or when one might open in the future? Im not even sure who all even has internships. Im trying to stay positive but its discouraging when alot of my friends have jobs, Thanks.

Please PM me too with information about GN internships in the Houston area. I get done with my BSN in December 2010. I'd love to be in NICU/mother-baby/L&D.

***Anyone with info r/t the above can PM too:)

Thank you all.

NICU internships are hard to come by right now. We only hired 3 for the upcoming internship group - which seems crazy because there were so many applicants. NICU and OB areas seem to be quite popular and hard to get into at the moment. It may be too late to get into the internship groups for January if you're looking in TMC. Maybe in the other hospitals around Houston...?

There was, what, 27, in your group? Something crazy! Especially for the size unit we have 3 is so few! We have a lot of new hires but they all come with experience.

Haha, no. Less than 10. The one group had close to 20...? It was crazy!

But now it seems that if you're not applying for the new intern groups when the apps are up, it's incredibly hard to get into the med center as a new grad. The pickings are quite slim these days compared to even two or three years ago.
