I was just wondering if anyone here is planning on applying for the ADN program this fall 2018. I will hopefully be applying but I need a retake on the hesi exam I passed all sections except the AP section.
Hello future RNS!
Looks like I should have stumbled upon this earlier!
I'm currently in the ADN program (semester 1) and started this January. As I look back (and read your posts!) I remember all the trials and tribulations it took to complete the application process...it seems like a joke, compared to the trials and tribulations now!
congratulations to those who've been accepted, and for those who have not...God has better plans for you! You'll learn very early on in any nursing program that although it took A's and high hesi scores to get in, it is not realistic to expect similar grades from your nursing classes.
Do NOT start this program with the assumption that it is community college and things will be a breeze. You will be taking the same NCLEX as any other student graduating from a reputable nursing program. it.is.HARD. not to mention, time consuming. Last orientation, one of the students asked the upperclassmen for advice. Her words were "started reading as soon as you get the books". How I wish I believed her then!
I was iffy about the program all throughout the application process. I never got an official acceptance, Castlebranch was very tedious (but you absolutely need these things done for clinical as per hospital requirements). There ARE breaks: we had spring break, we'll get about 2 wks in the summer, 10 days in between summer and fall. Since yall start in the fall, I'm assuming you'll at least get thanksgiving and winter break.
HCC Coleman has a brand-new building for health professions and it is something for other schools to be jelly about! The labs are phenomenal and I highly suggest you take a look for yourself! The instructors are highly qualified and among them are DNPs and MSNs. Each of them are unique in their own way (this can be exhausting as it creates many deviations in what is expected) but they want you to succeed. My professors have been available to me whenever I needed them (and trust me, you need them!). Do not be afraid to ask for help, whether its from a professor or your peers. You simply cannot get through nursing school without a study group, I cannot emphasize this enough!! Our class is very tight-knit and we sought out help from each other from the very beginning.
There will be a dosage calculation exam in your Foundations class. I believe they'll provide you with the study materials to pass this test. It must be passed in order to start clinical. Not to worry-you have 3 chances to make a 90 or above. I was terrible at math and the 90 is a high target to make but you'll soon realize 0.5 mls vs 5.0 mls can take a pt. out! It is sooo important you master dosage calculations and rounding rules. Math will follow you in every class, every exam, all the way to the NCLEX.
Lastly, a bit of realistic advice-
start the program with a positive outlook. There will be many situations/people to find fault in. You simply will not have the time to dwell on negativity. You're going to hear all kinds of things about the program-students don't sleep, professors aren't accommodating to your family/work schedule blahblahblah, but its nursing school! You made it this far! Believe in yourself and remember that it is only short term. The end result will be so worth it.
If anyone doesn't know where to get their titers done at here's a link you can check out. I'm doing mines here I'm paying $200 for all the five titers required, they offer a small discount for students.

I don't think it depends on HCC, it depends on if Castle Branch will accept it. It's a form of insurance so it should be ok. Submit it to your castle branch and they'll let you know if it's approved within a day or two.
