Houston Baptist University

Published

I have a BA already and will be a licensed LVN/LPN soon and I'm interested in the Houston Baptist University's LVN to BSN program. I'm not interested in accelerated programs because I just came out of one and really don't want to go through that again. Is Houston Baptist difficult to get into? Any feedback on this school or any other schools for people in my situation would be very much appreciated. TIA

From what I have heard, HBU current students get preference when applying for the RN programs. HBU is also very expensive, I think around $10,000 per year.. their ADN program is three years and the BSN is three or four, I can't remember now; so if you don't have any pre-reqs done, it may be very expensive. I used to work at Memorial Southwest and we had two HBU nursing students in our department. They both said the program was very hard (which we all expect from nursing school anyway) but they said it's like they make it especially hard. It does have a great nursing program, ADN and BSN, and they have a great pass rate for NCLEX. HTH and good luck with your decision

It is very, very expensive!! I agree with the above poster if you need to take pre-req's go elsewhere like a community college. I went there for one year and I did pay 10,000 and I took the rest of my pre-req's for the BSN only to be denied admission. So now I'm 10,000 in debt for nothing basically. Most of the professors are not very friendly or caring. I wouldn't go back, but each it's own.

i find it unprofessional that hbu never replied to any of my emails in regards to my inquiries of their nursing program. this is my only complaint of hbu. that was when i was still a pre-nursing student and had a strong interest of applying to their program. oh well. it's their loss!

They've lowered their standards a bit for admission recently. Retention is a big issue there. I would venture to say that it's easy to get into, but not always easy to stay in the program. The ICU course and the two HESIs often delay certain people from graduating on time. Still, if ICU is something of interest - it's a great school to go to. It's expensive, but if you can make it through the program, it can be well worth the amount of your loans.
