Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello! I was writing to see if anyone has applied to the HBU FNP or PNP program. I am looking into my options since a hiccup in my personal life disallowed me to accept another schools offer, and found the HBU program which is all online and now accredited. The website is very vague in terms of application process and admission requirements, however I am very curious on the offerings the program has. I have reached out to the school, but have yet to hear from them and would love the insight from other current/prospective students.

Thank you for responding ladies. The consensus I am getting is that this is a good choice. Just like with anything, I'll get what I put into it. I just missed the June cutoff, so I am going for Fall admission. If anyone is starting then I'm open to study groups etc. We got this..

I recently got admitted for the Fall FNP program. I’m down for forming a study group.

Yay...still waiting on my acceptance. Guess there is no private messaging here for me to send my number. I am on instagram anesu98. I can send you my information there

I'm in the FNP cohort 3 and will graduate in August. My experience is very different than others on this thread. Perhaps they have been working out the problems, and later cohorts have better-prepared material. My entire cohort is extremely frustrated and has muddled through the program on our own, frequently having no idea what is expected. The program is 100% self-taught, and some instructors will not even respond to emails, or if they do, they respond with "consult your syllabus" (which isn't addressed or we wouldn't have asked in the first place). The PNP students have it much better as they do have an involved program director.

Hello ReturningRNStudent,

I was just accepted into the Fall 2020 FNP program. I was informed that the schedule is 2 classes every 10 weeks. Could you please provide me with the course schedule for an idea on how the classes progress? Also, was any assistance provided with clinical placement? What has your experience been with finding preceptors? I am worried about this especially during COVID and availability of preceptors and sites:( Grateful for any info or advice you can offer! Thanks!

We have full 16 week semesters with 3 classes per semester except 2 during Summer. Preceptors have been extremely hard to find during covid. We are still trying to work it out. Congratulations on acceptance.

Thanks Debra for your response! I am excited to start this journey to NP! When did you start? Is the 10 week semester new post-COVID? Also, please can you share your schedule, just need an idea of how classes progress and when clinicals begin as I start to search for preceptors:) You can email me too if it's [email protected]. Thanks so very much!

I agree with Debra, preceptors have been difficult to find during COVID and several students in cohort 3 have lost their clinical sites and some will be extending into the fall semester because they are unable to finish on time. There is no assistance in locating clinical sites, but most students have ample contacts and do not have a problem (in normal circumstances). My cohort (3) has been taking one class at a time (occasionally two) every 8 weeks. We began clinicals at the beginning of year two, but only a few hours (28 hours of assessment) until the last 6 months of the program at which time we had to complete the majority of the hours. None of the classes are exceptionally difficult, just disorganized with little direction, instruction or expectation. The directions in the syllabus frequently contradict the sketchy directions in blackboard and when an email is sent to the instructor for clarification, it is frequently unanswered. It sounds like the program has been dramatically changed with each cohort so hopefully the problems my cohort have collectively experienced have been resolved. The pedi program director is outstanding so those students are happy!

Hello and thanks so much for your response! One class at a time would be even better but don't mind the 2 every 10 weeks either. I just feel like 3 would be overwhelming! It does seem like there's alot of changes with every new group so I do hope they are improving on previous issues. I am encouraged that clinicals start later in the program as I will need to start searching for preceptors! I don't know which cohort I am, we start in August but still waiting on more info. I pray COVID conditions improve and hopefully the school will help with finding placement as well so you don't have to sit out a semester! When are you slated to finish?

I finish in 3 weeks!! The school WILL NOT help with placement, but the students are pretty good about helping each other. I agree, I prefer one class at a time just to keep things orderly!! Good luck. It's not difficult, It's about perseverance.

Oh that's so wonderful and congratulations on seeing it through!!! It also gives me so much hope that it can be done! It says 24-26 months timeline, is that about accurate for this program?

Okay great that would make us cohort 7. So glad you were able to find one!! Are you able to use one preceptor for multiple clinicals or will you need to find a different preeptor for each one? Especially if preceptor is an FNP seeing everyone from babies to adults? Thanks!
