i am going to BOLC next week and ordered to fort bragg june 15th, i was looking into housing.. my recruiter told me not to worry about this until i get to bolc, is this true? he told me that once i check into fort brag i will be put into temporary lodging and will request 10 days of TDY where i can look for housing.. anyone else do this and did it work for them? I think i'd rather have an apt/house set up before then.. he did tell me to fill out the housing form online n shedule to have them pick up my belongings but he said they just store them until i have an address for them to deliver to
You call them directly as soon as you get orders. You have to pay for fifteen days out of pocket up front (you'll get this back when you file your travel voucher). The folks at billeting here are very helpful, though - they actually made my reservation and didn't charge my card for a month (which was when I told them I could actually pay out that kind of cash up front).
I found their number by googling "Lackland Air Force Base billeting".
Okay - was perusing this thread and btw - thanks to all the military posters! You help the newbies out soooo much! It is really appreciated.
Had to tell my military story (I was active duty USN back when ships were made of iron - lol). Married an AF guy and followed him all over.
We lived in Korea from 1988 to 1990. When it came time to leave hubby was in the states and I had to get the car to Pusan (the port city) for shipping. So...I get the kids in their seats - ages 5 and 10 at the time and off we go. We line up in Pusan (you line up everywhere in Korea) and watch as the big cranes lift the cars individually off the pier and put them on the ship. The car in front of us is lifted up by the crane and then dropped in the water!!!! Missed the ship. My sons both said "whew Mom, they are going to be in so much trouble!"
It was so wild...so the dockworkers go to the edge and look down and the car is just sinking like a rock. Don't know what happened but they loaded us about an hour later (with the other car now long gone) and we had no problems....just another weird military move story.

Great. So how does one make reservations there and when? I'm more worried about my dog than me. lol.
