hi

my uni has agreed to help me top up my placement, so i will be able to graduate with the correct number of hours in peads/mental and maternity. so atleast that the practical side of it is sorted.

however i have tried to contact the board of nursing in regard to how many hours we are talking about topping up, but no reply so far. have anyone had to do this, do u know how many hours placement and theory per field i would need????

well done. When I did my conversion from ENG to RGN I had to do 75 hours theory and 75 hours practical for midwifery, mental health. Was lucky not to do paeds as I had done that in my inital training. I am trying to think if it has been mentioned on the international forum. May be worth doing a search on there or PM suzanne4 she may have an idea on hours

hi anna

thanks again for a speedy reply, it seems like alot of people are wondering and talking about it in other threads but after 4 hours( sad i know!) search i am still missing an actual number.lol but if u had to do 75 the surely my number would be around the same, give and take.

hopefully someone els in the know reply and i can get and average from that.

cheers anna

Hi there hannah

May I ask what uni you go to? Do they also offer to help students from other uni's top up the hours they need? my uni is reallly horrible and won't help any student gain the hours they need for applying to the usa...

Hi Hanna

Has the board of nursing you have applied to told you that you are low on hours?

I went to a ogp meeting last year and was told that there was no chance of me getting approved as I trained as project 2000 nurse and would certanily not have enough hours in theses areas.

I applied anyway through california of my own back they done an evaluation sent an ATT

I now have passed NCLEX and have Visascreen in my hand and im going for interview with the hospital of my choice in a state i would like to live.

The hours I completed are as follows

obs: 37.5hrs theory 112.5 practical

peads: 37.5 theory 112.5 practical

psych 150 theory 225 practical

hope this helps.

The moral of the story is dont trust agencys.

good luck

I thought it was 80hrs practical dunno where I got that from some site or other.

I have to say the agency i went with hasn't given me any problems, apart from the uncertanty of where I would end up which did cause me worries because of hubbys job, but I leave UK on 1st Dec

10 months after passing my NCLEX.

I was never ever under any illusions that they were the answer to my problems and would baby me every step of the way, I went in with my eyes wide open. Simply I didnt have the time to go it alone and worry and stress and chase up recruiters.

I didnt care where I went stateside the object was to get there and worry where I really wanted to be during the contracted time.

I do believe however if you specifically want an area then you have to go it alone because you'll never get what you want completly by going with an agency.

It is not all sweetness and light with recruiters the time span can be longer, they may pull out when least expected and you can be contracted for longer up to 3 years.

I am also under no illusions that once I get there i will be supported by the agency I am after a business deal :lol2: I have to focus on the means to an end
