A coworker just put in her bills and receipts as she paid them and got reimbursement that way. They paid the bills until she reached $2200 a year. It doesn't work the way Suzanne says in my facility. (Thank goodness because I go to a school that is more expensive than the local programs. (But not Excelsior)).
The $2200 is about the cost per year in MI as well. The facility would meet up to that amount and then the nurse would be responsible for the rest. They base it on so much per credit hour that they will pay for. Anything above that, you need to take care of.
The way that they come up with a price, is that they take an average of what the price would be for the nurse to attend a local university. Then they base it on that. About $1100 per semester, give or take the location.
What I did was print out my receipts for each exam as I paid for it, and my books as I bought them. Initially, I did the Pay-Your-Way plan for the enrollment fee. I turned my payment records in for that, and my hospital reimbursed me for what I had already paid, plus the remainder- which I used to pay off the bill. So, with each reimbursement from 1 exam fee, I would pay for the next one. That worked well for me.
my clinic pays up to $2000 per year. we use to have to pay up front and then send in our grades and bills and they paid us what we requested up to $2000 as long as you did well in school. we had to sign on for so long if they did that and we had to "ask persmission up front for reimbursement" now they will give us 1/2 of the costs up front if we chose to but now get paid by grades a=100%, b=75% c=50%. so if you are strapped for cash, it is helpful. still have to sign on for whatever amount you are getting. ie $1500 and up you have to commit to 18 months, $500 is 6 months, etc. but i got $1700 back last year after i paid it all in. helped me out.

Hi all!!
Well I have finally decided to take the plunge and apply to excelsior! I have a question though about tution reimbursement. most hospitals (mine included) pay by the semester but since excelsior doesn't work that way I am wondering how others handled it. please let me know!
