Does anyone work at NMMC in Tupelo? I graduate from nursing school in December (knock on wood) and have been looking at hospitals in Jackson and would consider relocating to Tupelo. I saw on their website where medical, dental, vision and life insurance is fully paid, which sounds great to me. Would be curious to know what the morale is like there, nurse/patient ratio, etc.

Also, if there are any Mississippians working at Baptist Memorial in Memphis I would be interested in knowing about benefits, morale, nurse/patient ratio, etc. there as well, or any other hospital in Memphis that I could check into. I know there is LeBonheur for Children, St. Judes, and Baptist Memorial, but those are the only ones I'm aware of.

I am currently externing this summer on a cardiac stepdown floor at Baptist in Jackson, but the morale on this floor is rather low. Not sure if it's hospital wide or just on this floor. I like the work, and I like the nurses on the floor, but the morale just doesn't seem to be that great... Also, on the 7p-7a shift it is not uncommon for nurses to have 7 patients, they even had 8 each one night. Definitely a morale killer.

Haven't heard whether the morale is any better at St. Dominic's or not. Would be interested in what their nurse/patient ratio is as well.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I lived in Tupelo for 2 years, but it was before I became an RN. I talked to a friend a few weeks ago, and she loves her job in the NICU at NMMC. Don't know about the benefits, but they are having a huge nursing shortage. I believe she told me the starting pay for new grads is around $19 or $20 per hour. And she gets plenty of opportunities to work overtime.

I currently work at UMC in the pediatric ER. Don't know much about Baptist or St. D. The benefits are good at UMC, but the morale is probably what you would consider low. I think that's true for just about everywhere, due to the staffing shortage and patient loads.

Good luck with nursing school....I just finished in May and it's such a relief! 4th semester is all downhill...you'll do fine! Sorry I couldn't help more

Hey Bleppity

I was looking at the Tennessee forums for memphis and there was one on there about the morale at Baptist and pretty much what I got from it was to stay clear. Do a search and you will find it. And think it was hospitals in the memphis area or something like that ;)

Memphis also has The Med (known for it's Trauma center); Methodist, and St. Francis.

Any interest in Vicksburg? I know of a place that pays well and offers a $5,000-$10,000 sign on bonus. It's a state of the art facility and I hear Vicksburg is a really pretty area...
