Hospitals in Australia that sponsor

Published

What hospitals and agencies would sponsor a newly graduated nurse (no work experience aside from clinicals) from the US? I was hoping to find a sponsor in 2012 and apply for a Business Long Stay Visa. Thanks!

Doubtful. You would be better getting a year experience somewhere. We already have more grads than graduate nurse program positions. My hospital sponsored me but i had 4 years experience at that stage.

Australia is not poor of nurses with no experience, graduate programs are usually for Australian citizens as the government pays the hospital a certain amount of money per grad, to take on grads.....(its suppose to be our 4th year of a degree, but due to the government needing nurses fast when there was a shortage of nurses, would not allow a 4 year BN and provided subsidising the hospitals to take on new grads and employing clinical supervisors, so therefore it is for Australians.

Have heard in the past they have taken on international grads, though I think this practise now would have to be questioned due to our own grads not getting a position in these programs. Many hospitals now demand a graduate year when we apply for other positions with experience.

As for finding a hospital that will sponsor with no experience in 2012!, this may be difficult, Australia is not a backwater to all other countries and the financial problems that have occurred, it is tougher times over here as well. You may find aged care has openings, though in 2012, one does not know what the future holds.

On saying that you can get a working holiday visa that allows you to work part-time if you are from the states, these positions in hospitals are more easier to obtain, as many positions in health care for nurses are often not full-time -costs more.

So your best bet would be to come on working holiday visa get work -experience, network and you may get a sponsorship that way. good luck
