Hospital Activities for Staff!?!

Published

What activities does your hospital plan for the staff?? (for example: my hospital will hold ice cream socials and give out ice cream sundaes free to the staff, they will sometimes have cake and hand out randomly, they also will have easter eggs stuffed with candy at easter with some prize eggs that have $10-$20 gift certificates) Just wondering what all your hospital did to show you are appreciated.

12-hour shift, understaffed unit, and making the staff feel like crap! Thats how my hospital treats its staff for our blood, sweat, and tears! Hospitals in general dont care at all about there employees but expect VIP service for everyone that walks in the door.

I have a life outside work, and while an ice cream social would be nice from time to time, I dont want to do activities with my co-workers.

We work together long enough hours, but I dont want to see you on my days off.

We got some plastic weather radio-oh and all the stuff of making us feel like crap, oh yeah calling nonstop on our days off to come in and work for call ins-when you do not even a thank you-but you can count on a write up for something petty.

We get ice cream socials as well and they always have one scheduled during day shift and one at night shift. We take turns covering each other so we can all go.

Sometimes when we're really understaffed and working really hard the managers will buy pizza and put it in the break room for us. On other occasions they've given us meal tickets for situations like that.

One of our nursing managers also has little baskets for all the DOUs and critical cares. If you go knock on her door she'll fill the basket with candies--primarily chocolate--for the unit. The good stuff too--Hershey's, Kit-Kats, etc.

That basket of candy is snatched up so fast--sometimes it really does help the day feel a little better.

No complaints here. Our hospital does the ice cream and pizza as well. During nurses week and hospital week they go all out. They have an appreciation breakfast, catered lunch and dinners, spa day with chocolate fountain, raffles with community donations, coffee cards,a special tea day with goodies. Managers can also give out free lunch pass, coffee and gift certificates. We also have a gym we can use and a laundry service. They also throw in extra stuff as they see fit. We also have an annual picnic and lots of health fairs and other special days where we get treats and freebies. I also love the vendors that sell their products in our lobby. They sell scrubs, leather goods, jewelry, art and baked goods. There is even more that I cannot even think of......they are pretty good to their staff and nurses

We also get the ice cream socials, smoothie bars, gift certificates to Java City (our coffee shop in house) for just routine appreciation gifts.

When census is high, they offer an additional incentive pay above and beyond our extra shift incentives. They are also really good about giving bonuses at the end of the fiscal yr (usually not much, 300-500 dollars, but still a nice gesture).

They also frequently have massage therapists come in (for days and night shift) for a few hours so that you can take a break and relax with a massage.

This place treats nurses like royalty.

my hospital doesn't really offer any social activities for those of us on the bottom of the food chain - so we do our own unit shin-digs; dinners etc.

Hospitals do and some don't so better be grateful for what you have then you wont feel miserable. We can always compare with something better but few compare with something worse )like not having a job or food)

Life is good and gives us many choices. One of ours was to take nursing to help others, we can gain much from the activities of our job and take refuge in the knowledge we have comforted so many. How can an ice-cream equal this?

Every holiday there is something happening, and during nurse's week we get goodies as well. Also, every summer there is an employee appreciation barbecue, which is nice, and throughout the year there are raffles and whatnot going on. This is all in addition to what my unit does together (potlucks, etc.).

I have no complaints. There is the odd duck who won't participate because "this hospital sucks" (find another job..? Just a thought.) or that they "don't want to socialize with coworkers outside of work," but for the most part we're an amiable, cohesive bunch that like to meet and greet and spend relaxing, non-work-related time together.

I think for the most part, morale is pretty darn good where I work.
