Hospice opportunities in Texas

Specialties Hospice

Hello. I am an RN of over 20 years.....the last 6 of which I have worked in Hospice. I am thinking of relocating to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, and am curious about the employment opportunities there. My main interest is working in the field, and doing continuous care. I carry my own benefits, and prefer working on a PRN or contract basis. Can someone shed some light on the hourly pay/job climate/etc. Also, can anyone recommend any company they have had positive experiences with? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.....Robert

I just left the Dallas area and I can tell you that you can work all you want there. Vitas (for one) does a LOT of CC and uses their own LVN's as well as agency staff. There are several agencies there. Nurse Finders is a biggie there and you can apply online. I believe Continuous Solutions is there as well.

Here are the names of some hospice providers in the DFW area:

1. Vitas

2. Odyssey Healthcare

3. Mission Hospice

4. Tender Heart

5. CHOT (Community Hospice of Texas)

6. American Hospice

7. Brentwood Hospice

I don't know about the pay, but I do know that an abundance of hospice nursing work is available all over the metroplex. Good luck to you.

Thank you so much for your information and attention. I feel better about making a change, thanks to you. Robb

for what it's worth , i have worked with most of these and have found that odyssey and american are generally the most stable and consistent with my patients needs.

I know I'm answering this a little late... I'm a continuous care LVN for one of the major hospice companies in DFW. You might be amazed that there are over 100 independent hospice companies in this area. You will find that continuous care staff is mostly CNAs/HHAs on day shift and LVNs on nights, I've actually yet to run into an RN working contiuous care. The major staffing agencies used by the hospice companies are Continuous Care Solutions and One to One Staffing. I've found that agency nurses more often work day shifts than nurses employed by the hospice company. There are many opportunities in hospice around here. The hours are normally 11-13 hour shifts, pay for LVNs is about $20/hr, if you work for the hospice company they usually reimburse your mileage as well, and pts are either in a private residence, nursing home, or assisted living facility.
