Hi, I know that nclex is a computer adaptive type of exam meaning that the questions depend on the answers of the examinee wherein the questions vary from one person to the other. But recently, I learned from another person that through his survey that taking nclex in Hongkong is more difficult than in Saipan wherein the former has more multiple type of questions and the failing rate is high than the latter. He recommends to take the test in Saipan, is it true? I am not good in answering multiple type of questions and I suck in pharma also. Thank you very much. I have no visa, well I am planning to acquire a tourist visa for the purpose of taking the exam if and when I decide to take it in the US.

i would advice you take it in either of those two places you mentioned.am facing the same problem and suzanne and other nurses adviced i take it in purto rico or st.thomas which is closer to where i stay, they said i might have problems getting visa to the states and i want to write this now and forget it,unless you are sure of getting visa to the states,i ll advice you dont risk it,remember ATT validity is short.Goodluck and God bless

You don't need to have a tourist visa to take it in Saipan. Once you get your ATT, you just need to present that ATT to the travel agency and they will be able to get a sort of a temp. visa just for the purpose of taking it in Saipan or Guam.
It is definitely false that their is such a thing as one testing site is easier or harder than the other. If you read the Pearson-Vue/NCSBN handbook regarding the NCLEX it is clearly stated there that the actual questions are actually dependent on how you answer your previous questions making your exam unique. You will also know by reading that handbook that majority of questions are in fact multiple type questions. None mutiple-type questions appearing in the NCLEX are in fact the alternate type questions and are the minority.
If you have a good review center then the reviewer should have explained this to you if in fact s/he ever took the NCLEX before.
As you answer the previous questions correctly the next questions becomes harder and harder and this is actually a good sign that you may pass in high probabilities. If your succeeding questions becomes easier then it is the opposite. ALL examiners are likewise will have the same feeling that they may have answered only half correctly. The CAT is in fact designed to let ALL examiners have approximately 50% correct and 50% wrong and that the level of difficulty of the questions will actually determine if you pass or not.
All of these are in the handbook or in the 2006 NCLEX Candidate bulletin in http://www.ncsbn.org
I would also like to refer you to this thread created by EricEnfermero in Allnurses.com's NCLEX discussion forum (http://www.allnurses.com/forums/f197). Thank you for posting this question here in the Int'l forum where your fellow foreign RNs can also benefit from your queries. :wink2:

Being everything equal, as it is really is. Try taking it in HK where the flights and accomodations are affordable and you can enjoy your free day vacationing aferwards. Don't worry about the seemingly 2-3 months backlog in HK's testing site. It is really more like just 1 month (as most testing sites) as the schedule changes day-to-day and even multiple times in a single day. Slots always open up as most candidates really just schedule to have a sure slot already and just conveniently re-schedule to a later date if needed.

Lawrence, how do you check for the availability for NCLEX in Hong Kong? I will register with Pearson these days. Palnning to take my NCLEX in november, hope I can get a slot...
How do you chose a test site? For me they are all the same. I am in UAE, so, all are far :)):wink2:

You cannot even select a slot or see what is available until you actually register with them. Hong Kong does have a two month wait most of the time, unless they get a cancellation just a week or so before the exam, and that does happen.
You may find that London will be faster for you. Or one of the other countries, such as Taiwan, or Seoul, or Japan. They have slots as well.
You have to register first and when you register you will be prompted to choose the testing site then you may now see the available slots on that site. If you choose a testing site in the asia-pacific region (not sure for London) you have to call them up to have the operator make the appointment. She will be asking for your Candidate ID # located in your ATT and pay via credit card for an extra $150 (International fee).
Goodluck. :wink2:
Thank you so much Janechy and Lawrence, I am already reviewing for the exam but have no definite date on when to sit for it since I believe I am not ready for it yet. Aside from the fact that I haven't received my eligibility which is good so as to prepare myself for the exam. Maybe I will sit for it in March. I will have to prepare myself for the type of exam where you have to select the correct answers, (select all that applies kind of question) I'm sorry I don't know what type of exam is that but I am not good in it, in fact very bad. Once again thank you so much for the valuable information
That type of question is under the alternate-type questions. Pls. don't prepare for the type of questions that may not even come out. Just continue w/ your review and do the practice q's in the CD and study the rationales very well. Why the option is correct and why the other options are incorrect. Likewise don't forget the strategy tips for each question. This is often times over-looked but is also vital for test-taking.
The CD questionarres will try to simulate the NCLEX test plan prepared by NCSBN and as well as give you the right amounts of alternate-type questions.
Most often times, the CD exam simulations may even give you more alternate-type questions than the real exam, where you may only get a handfull of them or even none at all.
So, don't worry too much and try to avoid concentrating on a particular type of question.
Thank you very much for all the help Lawrence
